I had a pretty busy day. This morning I went to see Slumdog Millionaire and all I can say is WOW!! I got there about six minutes late (had serious trouble finding the damn movie theater - and got all red lights on the way there)... but once I sat down, I didn't even move my eyes from the screen once. I didn't even think about eating my candy! I was mesmerized. What a fantastic film! I'm still thinking about it now, and want to see it again.

After the movie, I came home and did some serious organizing and cleaning. I threw away a whole box full of papers from my classes, and other stuff that I don't need. If I do from time to time, moving will be so much easier in May and June. Then I cleaned my bathroom - scoured the floors and the tub. and after that, we went across the street and ordered Thai food which we ate at home with red wine that I bought at Trader Joe's yesterday.

and now that I'm thoroughly exhausted, I think I'll watch Scoop , the Woody Allen movie with Scarlett Johansen and Hugh Jackman, and then read my Sookie Stackhouse novel (I'm now on the second one) and go to sleep!

Happy weekend everyone!

we are different in some ways, yes. but we also love Pushing Daisies!!

and different doesn't mean we can't be good friends:)

P.s. I haven't watched Scoop yet - I hope it's good. Woody is hit and miss these days.

very true, on all counts.
let me know what you thought of Scoop.

I watched Scoop on Saturday night and actually enjoyed it. But I will admit that it was definitely not Woody Allen's best or the best work of either Scarlett or Hugh. Woody's character was a bit annoying at times - he's getting a bit too old I think to be funny anymore. But overall I thought the plot was quirky and creative.

So you'd recommend Slumdog? I'm still not sure....

Sounds like a nice constructive day - I didn't do much of anything yesterday. Lol.

I enjoyed Scoope - Jackman is yummy, but then again isn't he always? I have a Sookie Stackhouse to read next. :-D

curious - why aren't you sure you want to see Slumdog ? I've actually been surprised to hear any negative critiques of the movie because I thought it was so original and so mesmerizing.

I don't want to spoil too much, but I will be writing more about what I liked about Slumdog later this week. I highly recommend it.

Scoop was a cute movie. Woody was a bit annoying - he's getting a bit too old and a parody of himself - but the plot was creative. and Hugh is gorgeous!!!! he and Scarlett made a nice couple.

Yeah - I heard that there are parts of it that are disturbing and harrowing... I'm a wuss, and only watch happy films. Lol!

I thought Woody was funny - and he isn't always. ;-)

oh definitely it's got some disturbing bits - it takes place in the slums in the former Bombay (now Mumbai), with extreme poverty, extremely dirty conditions, and exploitation of kids (which to me was the most disturbing parts). there's some violence (as in torture) but not very much. and the ending is so uplifting and hopeful it made me cry. so I still highly recommend it, unless the setting would bother you.

no Woody isn't always funny. I thought his character was funny in Scoop, but a tad bit annoying (though perhaps that was the point of his character)

Hmm. If the ending is uplifting, I'll give it a go. I'm NOT good with sad endings. Lol!

oh if you can, I'd see Slumdog in the theater. it's such a gorgeous film, aesthetically, and I think it benefits from a view on the big screen. either way, though, I know you'll love it!

With the latest news about the financial crisis in Japan I was thinking a lot about you and your family situation. Is your husband still planing to go back to Japan or do those news influence his decisions?

With warmest wishes!

actually it's interesting that you ask, because it is because of the financial crisis that he wants to return to Japan, so he can be with his family and feel more secure. he's planning to help his family with their dry cleaning business, or possibly pursue a career as a buddhist monk (though that's really not decided yet).

the financial situation is really bad here in the U.S. as well as in Japan right now. My husband's current company here in Illinois is being hit hard and they are losing money, so he's not sure how long that job will last. So he will return to Japan while I go and spend time with my family in Washington. I'm a bit worried about being without a job, but I also kind of need a break - life's been stressful lately.

thanks so much for your thoughts and wishes. I'll keep you posted on how things turn out.
