laurainlimbo: (piglet and pooh)

I just wanted to post an update since I realized I haven't done so for almost a week. Thankfully things are going well, and there hasn't been any crises or moments of severe stress so perhaps that's why I haven't been prompted to write. I've nothing much to report. Except perhaps that I'm seriously tired and I'm experiencing horrible shoulder pain, which might send me to get some medical help. I'd love to get acupuncture, or perhaps get some massage therapy, but I don't think those kinds of treatments are covered by my insurance. Doctors wouldn't do anything except give me pain medication which would just make me tired and would only get rid of the pain, not the problem. If anyone has any suggestions on how to alleviate severe shoulder and neck pain, please let me know. I feel like I've been in a car wreck!

In other news, I've paid and registered for my online summer course, so there's no turning back now. It's starting to feel a bit scary since I'm committing to something expensive and time consuming. But I think it should be a nice challenge, I just need to start taking care of my self and getting enough rest and exercise so I don't burn out once I start working full time and studying.

speaking of exercise, Saturday afternoon my husband and I realized that we should start utilizing the exercise room in our apartment complex - they have two treadmills, some weights and one of those machines that work the legs and arms. I did the treadmill on a quick walk for about 20 minutes or more and it felt so good! I can't believe I spent the entire winter without using those machines. I'm going to get into shape now that spring is upon us.

Yesterday we hit a record warm temperature of 80 degrees!! Sunday was 79 degrees, and gorgeous and sunny. It is going to cool down a bit and rain later in the week, but I'll tell you that warm weather was so nice while it lasted!

Finally I haven't watched many movies lately but last night I did watch Happy Endings , an independent film with Lisa Kudrow, Laura Dern, Maggie Gyllenhaal and a cast of other actors who I can't identify.

Happy Endings is three interconnected stories centered around relationships (ranging from slightly to seriously dysfunctional). I'd call it a dark comedy because while it is generally an upbeat movie, it's not "laugh out loud funny". Some of the situations are a bit disturbing, and there is some sex(though surprisingly there's not a lot of nudity), some scenes of masturbation, and there are some references to homosexual relationships. My only complaint was that it was a bit overlong at 2 hours and 15 minutes, and that some of the scenes seemed unnecessary, especially related to one of the story lines about a gay couple who had wanted to be sperm donors for their lesbian friends, and there was some tension about why they had not chosen to go forward with the plan. Lisa Kudrow was fantastic; I think she is highly underrated as an actress and deserves credit for this role. She plays a single woman who gave up her baby when she was 17 (there is a very controversial situation regarding the father of this baby); she is contacted by a young man, who claims to know her son, and who wants to make a documentary about the reunion between a mother and the son she gave up. Maggie G is also great, as usual, and her role is quirky and very sexual. It's funny - I can't think of a movie that I've seen with Maggie in which she is not either having sex, or getting naked. I love her because of her extreme sexuality and free spirit though, and in this movie she sings, and she is incredible!! I say if you are very open-minded and like movies about relationships, see this film. It has some very funny and even some very poignant moments, and each story does have a happy ending:)

Finally, sorry I haven't been a good LJ friend. I am seriously behind on my emails and comments, and haven't read many posts lately either. I haven't been so busy, I just haven't felt like sitting on the computer. I will catch up, I promise. If there's something I should see, please direct me to it:)

*hugs* and have a great week!!
