laurainlimbo: (random thoughts)

well that's a good enough subject right? I had meant to update this weekend, but just didn't get it done. no excuses. I was busy downloading music last night, so expect more presents here in later posts. let's see... what's happening? Lots of random stuff so I'll put it under some nice cuts to save your friends' pages:

Firstly, I got the list of textbooks for my first two paralegal courses, and I already ordered three of the four. I found them online at used book sites, so I saved more than $50 altogether.  I missed the UPS shipment today, but I should get them tomorrow. and since classes don't start until late June, this gives me a lot of time to get an overview of the material.  I'm so excited! In other book news, I ordered the first "Zodiac" book from an Amazon marketplace seller on March 20th and I STILL haven't received it. Normally I'd be like super pissed, but there's something very interesting about this book seller. He lives in Hollywood and he told me in an email (the first email reply to my query about when the book had been shipped) that he actually worked on the set for the movie. I was a bit skeptical, but then in a later email (after I told him what a huge Jake Gyllenhaal fan I am) he wrote the following paragraph: Jake was a pretty cool guy, easy to talk to, down to earth. When I worked on Zodiac 'Brokeback Moutain' was done shooting but hadn't come out yet; I think that movie did interesting things for his career. 'October Sky' is a great movie in case you've never seen it. But all of those guys were very cool- Robert Downey; Mark Ruffalo are nice guys, & David Fincher is so focused that he barely looks at anyone. He just walks around deep in thought from the monitors to the actors and back again, pointing things out to his key people but totally absorbed in what he's doing. I asked him for more information about what his job was on the set, and of course told him I was majorly jealous that he'd met the actors. I have looked on IMDB for the crew of the movie, and didn't see this guy's name (he says his name is Scott Vogel). The only Scott Vogel I found was a producer, and I think if he was a producer for Zodiac, his name would be there.  Anyway, I thought that was pretty interesting that I ordered a book from someone who worked on a HOllywood set with Jake!!!!  Now if I can just get the book I'll be really happy!
Things are starting to look a bit more confusing in terms of our future plans - but that's not necessarily bad - just pretty normal for us. After M's recent problems with his job, I thought for sure we'd have to move from here as soon as our lease is up on the apartment. I didn't mind the prospect of moving back to Washington, since I'd be nearer to my sister, and I'd be with my parents.  I miss my family after all. But I was getting worried that I might not find work there in their small town, and that the move would be really stressful (as I have only one month between my school terms) as well as very expensive. To move out there with all of our furniture and a car, we would have to hire a moving company, which I'm sure is $1400 or more! And since I'm trying to pay for my school alone (without charging it or taking a loan), there's no more money.  But if we stayed here for another six or nine months, until I was finished with my parelegal program, we could save more money by both working full time. Our rent may go up a bit, but I found out I can extend the lease nine months without an extra fee. And if things continue to work out for M with his company, we might be able to tough it out and stay here for awhile. His managers have hired a guy to potentially take over M's position; and if that works out, after another three months, they will move M into a better position that is more desk work and less warehouse ( and which will take him away from working with the client who has driven him crazy). Of course we still won't really know until maybe July or so, but it is another plan to think about. I still want to move to the west coast to look for paralegal work, and could do that next spring, closer to when I'll have my certificate.
Yesterday we drove into the city to drop off my Sentra at the house of a mechanic - he's a friend of a girl, Danielle, who I work with. She recommended him to work on my emissions problem - he is a licensed mechanic and works for a shop, but he'll do it from hom and save all the overhead and extra expenses. He told Danielle he could probably fix my emissions problem, and take it to get tested again, for about $200 including parts! I had to leave it with him for two or three days, so M followed me into the city in his Jeep. It was pouring rain, and a bit cold, and we had a bit of a scare when we were leaving this guy's house. M left his car idling while he checked something in the back of his car,  and all of a sudden the car died. He tried starting it and it wouldn't start - and then it was putting out this horrible smell. I called this guy, Derrick, since were just a block away, and he walked over in the pouring rain, took a look under the hood, and thankfully found that the connection to the distributor cap was loose.  He fixed it right away and the car started up. We were so worried because on Sundays in Chicago, hardly any mechanics are open, and it was already after 2 p.m. All was well, and I left my car and we drove back home and got in out of the rain. I should find out tomorrow about my car and hopefully get it Wednesday
I'll be back later with a review of Marie Antoinette some words about my job, and maybe some music. Hope all is well for everyone! hope you'll all drop by to say hi!!
