I don't really have much to write about today, except that on my sister's recommendation I watched the movie "Napoleon Dynamite" which was a masterpiece of understated brilliance! though some people might not get it, because not much happens, its pure genius! My favorite lines: Kid: "What are you going to do today, Napoleon?" Napoleon: "Whatever I want to do. Gosh!" And at the school dance, Napoleon asks his friends "Are you having a killer time?" GREAT MOVIE!
And I have been forgetting to look for examples of bad English lately, but I will try to find some once my life slows down a bit.
Oh, I did have a fun time on Sunday night - I met seven of my former students (all girls) and the English course teacher from the high school where I used to work. Mrs. Kataoka (Akiko) was my supervisor, and was the one who basically took care of me while I was working at the high school (taking me shopping, helping me fix things in my apt, protecting me from other teachers, etc.....) WE got pretty close and I hadn't seen her since I came back here. It was great fun to see her and the students - some of them have forgotten English, but Narumi, the girl who I have been in touch with for several years (the one who organized the whole get together) has perfect English and is also learning Chinese. She will spend a year in China from next February studying Chinese! I hope to meet them all again at the winter holidays.
Finally, I was browsing the Japan Times (the biggest English language newspaper in Japan) and found this funny (in a morbid way) article which really makes me think about my future with great trepidation . . .
