I'm really super tired right now - well, more sleepy than tired. the last few days have been very busy, and the next week will be surprisingly busy as well. so I thought I would get a few lines in here before I forget.
Last week was relatively boring - hence why I had so much time to search the internet and find interesting and weird pictures and stories! But starting Friday things got busy. I tutored on Friday afternoon as usual - the kids were very distracted that day for some reason, and I realize that I need to find some better ways to keep their attention on learning. Saturday, Masahiko and his friend went into Shizuoka to visit the home of a friend who recently died in an automobile accident. Masahiko hadn't seen this friend for several years, and hadn't even contacted him since he came back. It has been hard for him to realize that this friend is now gone. But they went to visit his family and dropped me off near my school, so I didn't have to take the train to go to work. I taught five classes Saturday afternoon, and after work went to meet my former supervisor, Akiko, near her home. She took me to dinner and we chatted awhile and then she drove me home. Today, Sunday, Masahiko and I went with my friend Bobbie and her boyfriend Minoru to an onsen (hot spring bath) up in the mountains near here. It took us about 30 minutes or so to get there and was up in this beautiful, quiet area called Shibakawa, surrounded by forests and mountains. the actual onsen has an indoor bath and an outdoor bath (called a "rotenburo") - both have a view of the river and the forests! It was so relaxing! I wish I could live up there. Bobbie said that her dream is that someday Minoru will sell his house in Fuji and they will buy that old onsen and fix it up and live there. That would be great! Its a little bit isolated, but there are no buildings or factories in view, and not even any electric lines - and the air is so clean and cool. I want to go there again - or to another onsen. Onsens can be addicting.
speaking of cool, the weather has cooled off so much at night - we are sleeping with blankets now! The daytimes have still been quite warm, but not as humid. A couple more weeks and we will really be into fall - my favorite season!! so my mood has improved significantly. Also, did I mention that our wallpaper is done in our classroom - and Masahiko finished our informational pamphlet. so now he just needs to make a sign, get some furniture and start advertising!
well, its time for bed. I will be busy every day but Thursday this week, so I gotta rest. I started coming down with some kind of crazy bug on Friday night and slept for over 10 hours! But I got rid of whatever it was, thankfully. changes in the weather can be hard on the body, even if they are welcomed.
before I go, here is another set of funny pictures!
