Well, the bad news is that the weather today sucks!  its cold, and rainy, and reinforces my sadness that I can't watch the academy awards, which are happening right now as I speak (or write, to be more accurate)...  and I found out that George Clooney beat Jake Gyllenhaal for best supporting actor... ACK!  I hate George Clooney!

those of you who were able to watch the awards, please give me the details as soon as possible...

The good news, though, is that Masahiko and I had the most wonderful day yesterday!  it was the kind of day that makes you feel happy to be alive, and that gives you enough positive reinforcement that you have fuel for a long long time...click for details about our day at the beach )

well, I didn't get a chance to watch the Oscars, but now I'm starting to think that its just as well. I think I would have been highly disappointed! Here's my two cents (or really 1/2 cent since I didn't even get to watch, I just read the headlines...):

First, Best Picture: I am very glad that Crash won for best picture - it was a very very good movie, and I am so happy that as long as Brokeback Mountain wasn't going to win, at least the award went to Crash rather than Munich or Capote...

But, that said, I was incredibly shocked at the snub that Brokeback was given! I mean it won the best picture in almost all other awards ceremonies, didn't it? And to not even get one of the actor or actress awards, that's just wrong! Its definitely some political move, on the part of the powers that be in Hollywood, and its just so damned predictable!

Next, Supporting Actor and Actress: I thought for sure that Michelle would win. I didn't see any of the other films, but Michelle was awesome and they should have at least awarded one member of that acting ensemble that made Brokeback so great! And of course Jake should have gotten best supporting actor - he deserves some recognition for this movie - and I don't care that he's younger and has his whole career ahead of him. this may have been his best role! I wouldn't even be so upset if Matt Dillon had beaten Jake since Matt was awesome in Crash! But why did Jake have to lose to that smarmy George Clooney? There's just something I don't like about George and I can't pinpoint it. And now that he's beaten Jake, I like him even less.

Okay, next, the Best Actor award: Philip what's his name is a good actor - yes I will admit that. But to win for a movie about Capote is wrong. I didn't see that movie, but now I don't want to! That's not acting. Now Joaquin in "Walk the Line" - that's awesome acting - and singing too! And of course Heath deserved that award too. Its so hard to say who deserved it more - but it was definitely not the guy who won.

I'm commiserating with all of the Brokeback fans who were shocked and disappointed with the snub - Hollywood is so predictable : they are not ready to give so much recognition to something that is still so controversial, despite the fact that it was brilliant and beautiful filmmaking!
