Who was it that said "I'm a lover not a figher"? was it Michael Jackson? well, that sentiment really applies to me. I definitely do not like fighting because it is so so tiring. So you can imagine how tired I am with all of the fighting I've had to do lately with this impending move. Fighting with my stupid landlady to get out of my lease (she still just doesn't get it!); fighting with the new apartment building to get them to accept us (which they did, and we will move in on Sunday); and now fighting with the EVIL company that is AT&T/SBC regarding the internet and phone service that I have with them. It seems that their DSL service is not expanded enough to include my new apartment location, which is just 10 miles away from where I am now, so they can't transfer my service. So since I have to now start service with Comcast, and pay an installation fee, etc., it's easier for me to just use Comcast for everything including phone. But stupid AT&T wanted to charge me $100 to cancel my phone/internet service because apparently I have a contract! So they want me to pay because they can't offer me a service which I am supposed to have for a year. Where's the logic in that? So after about 5 calls to customer service, I finally got them to waive the fee and cancel my whole service with them. Yay! Some victory, I guess, but I'm tired of fighting the powers. really it's quite exhausting.
But good news is we will move out to the lovely village of Mt. Prospect, IL this coming Sunday afternoon, and be out of this disgusting hovel (that is my current apartment) by next week - of course I still need to get all of my things out of here, and clean it to a certain extent, keeping in mind that it was disgustingly filthy when I moved in. Ah, what a nightmare this has been...
as much as I'm happy to get out of this apartment and even this neighborhood, I'm having mixed feelings about getting out of the city, though. I've always loved the vibrance of the city, while also desiring to be in a quieter place with more nature. It's my dual personality I guess. I will miss certain conveniences and being closer to downtown (though I hardly go there anymore). I'll miss the little neighborhood grocery stores and hole in the wall shops. I won't miss these things: the fast, rushed pace, the horrid driving and traffic (which will diminish a bit in the suburbs), the noise, the trash on the streets (though there may be that even out in the 'burbs), and the weird people. Funny thing though, I do get a kick out of the strange people on the train - watching people is one of those things I never get tired of.
OOH, Supernatural Season 2 starts tonight - I'm so so excited!!! I just wish I'd had a chance to finish watching the whole first season...
