oh my god I'm listening to the '70s music channel on Comcast digital cable, and they are playing Shaun Cassidy! I used to have the biggest pre-teen crush on him back in the day - back when he was on The Hardy Boys. Okay pop quiz: who was cuter: David or Shaun? When I was about 12, I guess it was Shaun, but I actually still have a major crush on David. Really! *swoon*

but on to bigger and better things . . . life has been basically non-stop, and I'm finally taking a few minutes to breathe, and to catch up. . .

in case you haven't heard, we've moved. We're in the suburbs now. we have trees, sky and nature out of our apartment window. we have a balcony and a parking lot. It's quiet. and the commute is so much easier for both of us. it's taking Masahiko only about 15 minutes to and from work, which is so great, especially since he is working such long hours these days. it's a bit longer for me, but not any longer than my previous commute to and from the city by car (though I was taking the train most days recently). I drove for the first time from the new place today, and it was virtually stress free. the roads are wider, not as crowded, and I just feel more relaxed. The same way I feel when I'm in the new apartment. It's so refreshing, and both of us are breathing easier now. We LOVE the new apartment (except for the fact that it's completely void of furniture (having been in a furnished place before now). we have stuff - lots and lots of stuff - but no way to organize it. we have no chairs on which to sit, no table at which to eat breakfast and dinner, no table for my tv/dvd and no desk for my computer. And we don't even have our bed yet - it won't be delivered until Saturday. so I feel a bit like I'm camping, yet with the modern conveniences of technology, namely cable, internet, and a phone line.

Yay - I have cable! for most people that's maybe not a big deal, but I actually haven't had cable television since the month that M and I lived in Portland, OR back in 2002. and that was for one month! It's really quite a big deal for me. I've been flipping channels, enjoying the radio stations - and last night I got a movie from On Demand movies! Life is good! I just wish I had a bit more free time - and a sofa to sit on to watch my cable.

in other news, we got a second vehicle. In addition to our 1997 Nissan Sentra, we now are the proud owners of a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Sport (Laredo). It's black, and it's very pretty. and it rides very well. It's basically going to be M's car, but I will eventually drive it, maybe on the weekends - and this week when we do our furniture shopping. We had a bit of a difficult time procuring this car - Saturday turned out to be a car shopping nightmare. Out of a list of about 10 cars, we'd narrowed it down to three to view. By 1 p.m. two of those were already strikes (one of them was way out in the suburbs and we wasted two whole hours driving out there, getting lost, and then driving back after we didn't like it). Knowing we had only one car left, and having seen it the previous weekend, we got our cashier's check at the bank, drove to the lot, and went for a test drive. it was great - until we pulled back into the lot and smoke started coming out of the hood. a hose had broken, so we had to leave it there until Monday when it could be repaired (no repairs on Sundays). of course we were disappointed because we had planned to take the car home that day. we needed it! we had planned to use that Jeep to do our moving on Sunday, so we were stuck with only the Sentra for our move (couldn't get a U-Haul on a Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. for the next day). of course we have no furniture, but even without furniture we needed a bigger vehicle. even after only six months we've accumulated so much stuff. So, with the small car, it took us three trips on Sunday, plus a fourth trip on Monday evening after we'd picked up the Jeep, to FINALLY get everything out of the old place. Crazy!

And on the way back from the city last night with our last load of stuff, we got stuck in a terrible hail storm. there was heavy rain, then hail, and an amazing display of lightning. in some parts of the city there were tornado warnings! I was terrified. I didn't know my way back from the car lot (where we picked up the Jeep) to our new apartment, and I can't see well in the dark, especially in a storm. I really thought I was going to die. when I finally got home, I was nearly in tears! so I ordered a pizza, watched "Better off Dead" for therapy, and ignored my pile of unpacked boxes.

they are all still unpacked.

anyone want to help me organize and decorate an empty apartment? I'm up for suggestions...

hope you all are doing well - drop a line and say hello.
