which means that it's actually colder today than it's been for the last three weeks.
It's -5 degrees F outside in our fair city. The high temp today will be 5 (that's 5 above, rather than 5 below 0 as it is right now as i'm typing this).
and guess what? I'm sick. It's just a cold, but still it's a bummer. It started Friday morning with the headache and scratchy throat, then progressively got worse yesterday. I couldn't sleep much last night with the scratchy throat and congestion, and this morning it's gone into my chest. I'm afraid to go outside in with the bitter cold and the wind since I'll probably get even sicker. so I'm afraid I'm housebound. I had a facial scheduled for today but I think I'll have to reschedule it.
Thank god there's only three days of work this week - but I don't get my first day off until Wednesday. hope I can make it until then...
Before I go, I need to post my Happy Things for yesterday. As usual I'm a day late.
I was happy to meet my friend Sarah for lunch at Applebees. She gave me a book to read called "The Time Traveler's Wife" - it looks really good.
And I was happy to get my holiday package filled with goodies from my mom - some chocolate, some warm socks, a key ring that beeps when you whistle (in case you lose your keys), and some caramel corn. she clearly knows that food makes me happy!
Today, I was going to be happy getting a facial at Ulta, but since I may not be able to do that, I'll have to find something else to be happy about. How about this: I'm happy that I have a roof over my head, and food in my cupboards, on a freezing cold day like today. I'm reminded at this time of year of how lucky I am that I've never been hungry or without blankets in winter. I hope that the homeless people in the Chicago area are being sheltered today and given warm food. I wish I could do something for them.
