laurainlimbo at 09:42pm on 12/04/2009I really did have a good weekend - I got organized, cleaned my apartment, did some shopping, and really relaxed. My only complaint is that my family seems to have forgotten that I exist. My sister hasn't called me in weeks - I know she's busy with a toddler and an infant, but really, why do I have to be the only one to call? and my mom is just plain senile these days - I called my mom yesterday and she only had time to talk to me for about 10 minutes because they were going to the neighbor's house for dinner. So I asked her to call me today, but she never called! I've decided that I'm not calling my family anymore. phone lines go both ways, and I've been the only one making any effort. I really don't get it.
so here's how my weekend went:
I don't really remember much of Friday night - I know that we ate some really delicious shrimp for dinner though - and broccoli! and I organized some files, and did some reading.
Saturday morning I got up really early so that I could get to the emissions testing center by 8 a.m., when they open. My 1997 Nissan Sentra is due for its biennial emissions test - the last time I had to pass, 2 years ago, I had to spend a couple hundred dollars to fix some part that was making my engine light stay on. And right after I passed that test, the engine light came back on. It has stayed on for 2 years! So I had a guy at my office use one of those machines and check the code and clear the engine light, thinking that if my engine light was off, I'd pass the test! Sadly I was wrong. When the tester hooked up my car to their machines, he said that the computer wasn't even reading. So apparently after I had the guy at work turn off the engine light, the computer didn't have a chance to "reset" because I haven't driven the car enough. Last week, I had the same thing done, and the light came back on within two days. So it seems I'll have to take my car to the shop and see what's causing the engine light to stay on - and probably have to spend some money to get it fixed! What a major pain!
When I got back home, I decided to do major spring cleaning in my apartment. The weather was gorgeous - sunny and clear, although a little on the cool side. but I opened up all my windows and cleaned everything! I hardly even recognized my living and dining room when I was done - everything was dusted and vacuumed, and I even put away all my winter scarves, hats and gloves, one pair of winter boots, and most of my winter sweaters. It was such a great feeling. I know it's only April, and we can still get snow, but I am DONE with winter.
After I rested and had something to eat, I then drove out to the shoe store and bought myself two pairs of shoes for spring!! I've been spending way too much money the last two weekends, but I'm not going to worry. I really needed shoes - after all last year I threw away my pair of black sandals because they had a hole in the bottom!
Today was a great day. My husband and I went to the nearby indoor swimming pool and signed up for a 3-month pass - and then we swam for 30 minutes. I haven't been swimming in three months or more - I used to go every week, but stopped because of all my female issues. But now that I'm feeling better, I want to start swimming every week again. It felt sooo good! And then we went to the grocery store, came home and ate some croissants, and then we both took a nap! This evening we had an awesome salad and japanese curry for dinner, and we are having a relaxing evening watching surfing videos and a movie about Gil Scott-Heron.
I didn't do any reading for my class this weekend - I just wanted to have a relaxing weekend without any studying or stress. The stress will begin tomorrow with another work week - and I have to spend some time seriously sorting out my hospital bills. I don't understand why the hospital can't just make one account number for me, rather than putting every single service on a different account number -I feel like they're doing that so they can just get more money out of me and my insurance company. I need to have a "talk" with them tomorrow. wish me luck!
