I have to say thank you to all my amazing friends for your birthday messages and virtual gifts! And a very big special thank you to
dawnie1970 and
dove95 for the Amazon gift certificates!
I also need to get onto Facebook and thank everyone on there for all the birthday messages - I got so many, and I can't get into Facebook while I'm at work.
I'm working today - and was actually quite busy this morning. and I was pleasantly surprised to see that my desk had been decorated with balloons and pretty red and pink paper. My co-worker Amy also gave me a really nice gift - some Willow Tree figurines from Hallmark, and a card. Amy and I sometimes don't see eye to eye, but she is really a sweet person. Then my boss took me and Amy out for lunch at a Mediterranean restaurant called The Pita Inn.
I had the vegetarian combo, which included falafel (seasoned chick peas), hummus, baba ghannoug (Baked eggplant, mashed and blended with tahini, yogurt and parsley, topped with olive oil and spices, served as a cold dip with pita bread), Jerusalem salad, stuffed grape leaves (stuffed with rice, steamed and served cold) and pita bread. I made two sandwiches with the pita bread, and I'm absolutely stuffed! I've never eaten Mediterranean cuisine before, and it was really yummy! Then today just happened to be our monthly "cake day", so now I'm eating a huge piece of chocolate cake. I don't know how I'm finding room after such a huge lunch, except that of course I have what the Japanese call "betsu bara" - or a second stomach just for dessert! I'm not sure I'll even be able to eat any dinner tonight. my husband might just be eating sushi all by himself.
Tomorrow we are planning to drive out to a place called Starved Rock State Park , which is about two hours south of where we live in Illinois. If the weather remains nice, as it is today (after several days of clouds and rain we actually had sunshine today), then it should be a great day for hiking around and seeing some nature! I need to get away for a day and just clear my head and walk around. I can't wait! We are planning to leave really early to avoid crowds, and come home before any thunderstorms start up.
The rest of the weekend I plan to just read, watch some tv shows, and relax. and perhaps exercise to get rid of all the calories I've consumed today!
I wonder if I'll even get any birthday cards or presents from my family - they're all so consumed with their own problems and lives lately that they forget all about me. Thank goodness I have my LJ family!!
