I returned to Fuji from my two-day trip to Tokyo and Saitama this afternoon, and I'm wiped out. It's not like I did much today (I sat on three different trains for a total of 4 1/2 hours), but it's the moving from train to train, speaking (bad) Japanese to find out where the heck the correct train is, going up and down millions of stairs in train stations, and just generally not being in my comfy zone (whatever that is!) - not to mention that Japanese trains just make me sleepy: the gentle movement of the train, the lulling sound of the trains going over the tracks, the heat coming out of the seats... it's no wonder everyone falls asleep on trains in Japan. but miraculously they never miss their stops - I'm always afraid the minute I fall asleep I'll miss my station and then be stuck on the rails!!
Anyway I digress. I took a few pictures from my travels, but sadly the ones of Tokyo didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped because a) it was raining all day on Tuesday; and b) some of my were taken after the sun was already setting, and my camera sucks at night pics. But I did get a few interesting shots and had a variety of interesting experiences (like walking around in circles completely lost in and outside of Shinujuku station). Also, on Wednesday I got to visit the John Lennon museum, which is the only one of it's kind and which is located just two towns north of where my friends, the Yoshinos, are living in northern Saitama. My friend Fujiko took me, and it was quite interesting. Plus it was just nice seeing my friends again - Fujiko and Katsu have been friends of our family for years, and I also saw their daughter Masami and her kids. She just had her third baby in June, and I got to meet little Aika, plus her two sons Keita and Yuji who are 6 and 3. It was fun hanging out with them, but wow - there's no way I'd ever want three kids, as cute as they are!
But since I'm pretty tired (I have a headache and my intestinal issues are back again!), and I'm waiting for my hubby to return from his job, I'm going to sign off and post a more proper update and report of my trip, with pics, tomorrow or Saturday. I also need to get caught up on everyone's posts - plus prepare for my next interview, which is in just three days!
