laurainlimbo: (cat and moon)

the last couple of days were really busy. Wednesday I walked in the morning, and then in the afternoon spent four hours at the pro-bono law office. I've been helping them to redesign a checklist for a packet of information on beginning a divorce. Also, I pulled up new cases on a server, printed them out, and created folders with labels. So far it's not challenging work, but it's nice to be doing something productive. I wish I could get paid, of course, but hopefully the more time I spend there, the more my name will be spread around the community. I've applied for a full time position at a law firm here in town, but of course there will be tons of applicants. I just have to hope I can get an interview.
I got home around 5 on Wednesday and was just about to prepare dinner when I got a call from the neighbor asking me if I could babysit her daughter for a few hours. So I ate quickly and ran next door, and ended up being there until nearly 10. I had fun with Frances - she's about 9, and we looked at some books, and watched part of a movie together before she went to bed around 8:45. I got a little bit of cash too, so that's always nice!

Thursday was a really busy, and very fun day. My mom, Masahiko and I met mom's friend Harry for lunch at the little cafe nearby. We had a veggie sandwich, coffee and pecan pie and talked for awhile. then Masahiko and I drove out to Sequim so I could buy some new running shoes! I don't really run, but these shoes I bought are also great for walking. Then later in the afternoon we joined my mom and Harry out at Harry's place where we ended up going into the hot tub before having a delicious dinner of steak, pasta and butternut squash soup! Harry's such a cool guy - not only do I love his home, which overlooks the strait, and is nestled in amongst tons of trees completely isolated from his neighbors - but he's such a liberal, open-minded man with so much life and energy. He even shared his joint with us before we went into the hot tub - that was the first time I've done that for a long time. With the rain and fog, and all of the nature, it was a great way to spend the afternoon! Harry's pretty amazing for nearly 80 years old - he still practices law, he loves to cook for us, bicycles nearly every day, plays guitar and piano, and even smokes a little weed! I love hanging out at his place!! We had a great time in the hot tub, then a delicious dinner, then chatted for a long time and got home around 8:30.

Today I'm not doing much at all. I walked this morning with my new shoes (but got a blister because they're not worn in yet), and then cleaned my mom's house a bit. Tonight our friend Rosa is coming over for dinner and we're making fish tacos and spinach salad - yum! this weekend my mom is going out of town, but Sunday we're going to see this amazing Flamenco guitarist named Andre Feriante - he's originally from Italy but lives in Seattle. We've seen him before, maybe 10 years ago. Here's a taste of how good he is:

oh and before I go, I'll post this picture of the rainbow we saw the other morning after the rain stopped. It was much more gorgeous with my own eyes, as the color is slightly faded in this picture. But if you squint, you can see it
somewhere under the rainbow )

well I gotta get a shower, and go buy salsa and make dinner! happy Friday!
