Sean Penn better have been a knock out of the park-type performance because I saw Rourke's performance in The Wrestler and it was pretty honest and deep. The Academy loves biopics and had to give Milk something and Rourke was playing a fictional character so that was probably why they gave it to Penn.

I was wondering why they gave the performance of "Down to Earth" to John Legend when Peter Gabriel was there at the ceremony! I actually liked most of the musical numbers (I fast-forwarded through the musical medley in the middle with all the guests). It gave the show some kick.
