ramblings on a boring weekend...

Thanks to [personal profile] serialbathera, [personal profile] wolfpurplemoon and [personal profile] toadflax234 for the virtual big bear hugs on my profile page! I feel loved:)

We didn't do much today. Besides trying to stay warm - it was ridiculously cold and misty all day again - we just did some shopping and reorganizing the room - again. M's been on a quest for the perfect arrangement for our room so he can use his computer and play music. This was like the fourth rearrangement. But I think he's got it ... for now!

We found my favorite wine, Yellow Tail Shiraz, at the grocery store today, and bought a big bottle for really cheap! It tasted so good, with some pizza and cheese and crackers. We watched the movie Collateral with Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise. We'd seen it before, but it's always a fun one to watch - Tom Cruise is chillingly perfect as the evil bad guy. I think it was one of his last good roles.

Nothing planned for tomorrow, but that's fine with me. Oh but we have loads of laundry to do - yuck!

Oh I just remembered tomorrow is Valentine's Day... funny how after being married for nearly 10 years, I have little interest in a commercial holiday which is really just an excuse for people to boost the economy by buying each other chocolate and flowers and other expensive things. Of course you can always make it more meaningful, like the Japanese girls do, and make your own chocolate cakes and truffles for your loved one. I can't be bothered baking this year, though - too much trouble to figure out how to use the oven! And since we eat so much chocolate on a daily basis, it's silly to buy more just because it's a mandated holiday. I hated Valentine's Day when I was single - I mean who doesn't? But as a married person, I find it kind of silly - as are most holidays (except for Halloween, of course). I think it's much more valuable to give little gifts throughout the year, at unexpected times, to show your loved one you care. M and I do that for each other from time to time, so February 14th is really just another day! And besides, here in Japan, they even go so far as to split Valentine's Day into two holidays. On February 14th, girls are supposed to buy gifts (usually chocolate) for their guys. But then girls must wait until March 14th, which is what the Japanese call "White Day" - that's when the guys buy chocolate (or other gifts) for their girls. The chocolate companies make lots of money with not just one, but two holidays for lovers. Too bad there are not more industries profiting (lingerie or sex toy shops, for example)... I don't think those kinds of shops are too prominent here in Japan, where people may be very into sex behind their closed doors, but they certainly won't talk about it. hush hush!

Anyway, for an explanation of Valentine's and White Day, here's a couple links: http://www.tanutech.com/japan/valentine.html
and of course wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Day

But enough of my rambling. For all you guys and gals out there who love Valentine's Day, I do hope it's a very romantic day. And for those of you who are single, or who hate the holiday, I say buy enough chocolate for yourself (or your single friends), rent "My Bloody Valentine" (cause it has Jensen Ackles, why not?) and indulge!

*smooches*

that's all for now.

Sunday is also the chinese new year :) (There are like five holidays in a three day span Sunday Valentine's, Anti-valentine (single awareness day), chinese lunar year. Monday President's day, Tuesday mardi Gras. So, I am sure a lot of people will get drunk this weekend.

I totally want to watch My Bloody Valentine, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. But you can't go wrong with a slasher movie in 3d with two people from Dawson's creek. (Jensen and Kerr Smith)

That is kind of cute that there are seperate holidays but kind of sexist that the girls have to give gifts first, and also especially if they are supposed to make their own. But I think for the most part it is probably more fun for the younger people, like when you are in grade school. (Especially since usually we had to buy valentine's for everyone, so no one would feel left out.)

Also, I think you are right. Love should be celebrated more than one day a year. How are people supposed to know they love them if you only feel like one day of the year you have to show or tell them. It is stupid. I am glad I am not the only one who feels that way. (When people hear I am anti-valentine's they act like I am bitter because I am single)

That is kind of sad that the lingere companies and sex toy company don't really as profit as much as the chocolate company. It is probably very taboo to give gifts of lingere and sex toys.

You are welcome for the bear hug hon :) And you should feel loved, you are an awesome person :)

Oh yes, chinese new Year, and President's day and Mardi Gras. this is a busy time of the year.

I want to watch My Bloody Valentine this week... I've heard it's bad, but I love Jensen! I didn't realize Jensen was on Dawson's Creek.

I agree about the girls giving gifts, but luckily things have gotten a bit more flexible in Japan over the years. there aren't as many rules - LOL! haha I remember grade school and giving valentines to everyone - even the kids you didn't like. but it was nice to get tons of cards, always made you feel special!

oh valentine's day is really just for those who are in new relationships think. you need to prove something, maybe. if I was teaching, I would have had fun with the kids though - have them make cards.

aw, thanks! you always make me feel so good!

*hugs*

it is a busy time of the year.

I hope we both get to watch it... umm isn't it supposed to be sorta of bad in the fun kind of way, it is a 3d slasher movie..lol.. Yes, he was in the last two seasons as CJ

Good I am glad that the rules have gotten more flexible and the girls aren't expected to make things, why the boys can just go spend money. That was fun times, for that one day and probably christmas it was like everyone in class got along (until the next day.) :)

I think you are right, it is more for new relationships. That would be fun if you were teaching to make cards, I think in elementary school we also made little heart people which would be fun to make with them as well.

You are welcome ::hugs tight::
