I remember our Japanese teacher always used to suggest that a melon was a good thing to bring to a party in our practice conversations. Still, I would usually say I was bringing vodka. Also, the word for vodka is easier to remember than the word for melon. But I always liked it when she put up her cartoon drawing of a melon because it looked liked a hand grenade. A hand grenade would not be a good thing to bring to a party, unless it was the beverage.
