a review of a movie I'll never see (and don't want to)

Well, I'm not in the U.S., but this weekend, a movie is being released there that makes me shudder.  And its not horror, but comedy (or should I say a lame attempt at comedy).

As a huge fan of Peter Sellers, and as the daughter of the biggest fan of the "Pink Panther" series (I loved them too, and saw them so many times when I was growing up - and just bought the series on DVD for my dad last year for Father's Day), I was very shocked when I heard that someone was going to TRY to play Inspector Clouseau in a whole new "Pink Panther" movie.   And I was even MORE shocked when I found out it was Steve Martin.  Now, I've always loved Steve Martin, and even bought the DVD of "The Jerk," which is one of my all time favorites (and I also love so many of his other movies, like "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", "The Man with Two Brains," and others....)  BUT ... not even someone as talented in his own right as Steve Martin can pull off the character that was so artfully, and hilariously, put into film history books by Peter Sellers.  In my opinion, and I'm sure my Dad and other fans would agree, Inspector Clouseau was Peter Sellers, and Peter Sellers was Inspector Clouseau.  When Peter Sellers died, there should never have been any more Pink Panther movies made.  End of story.  But several people had the gall to make do just that, and the film looks horrible (and Roger Ebert has attested to that with his review:)

Frankly, I'm horrified that the movie is even out there, in the theaters, for people to see.  I wish I could boycott it and instead make people sit down watch the brilliant Peter Sellers, and the brilliant Herbert Lom, in those wonderful movies that can never be matched...
