The Letter Meme

I hardly have time or energy to write updates, but I realized I have some memes to do... so here goes!

Comment to this entry and I'll give you a letter. List ten things that you love that begin with that letter and then post that list on your journal.
[livejournal.com profile] moondropz gave me the letter G and [livejournal.com profile] ageless_aislynn gave me the letter D.

First, things that begin with G! )

And now, if you're not totally bored here is my list of favorite things beginning with D )

Whew! That was hard, but fun!

If you want a letter, comment below. Otherwise, I hope at least you enjoyed this list!

a little meme

I stole this from [personal profile] 1_rhiannon_1

Write about the 1st thing that comes to mind when reading these:

1) Livejournal - For me, Live Journal is my "home away from home" - it's been my comfort through lonely and hard times, my connection to the outside world (with ability to get shows and music and movies and talk with people about fandoms and events and news), and where some of my best friends live!! Since I'm kind of between worlds and homes and countries right now (and have been off and on since I joined LJ), coming to Live Journal is comfortable and relaxing for me. It's familiarity when I'm faced with indecision and instability in my own life. I wish I could meet all of my LJ friends in person because you are some of the best people I've ever known. I'm thankful for this place, and for the people who have allowed me to be a part of your lives!! *hugs* and loves my LJ friends!!

2) Seasons - my favorite seasons always will be spring and fall. Especially fall, when the leaves change and there's a cool crispness in the air that makes you feel alive and refreshed. It's the best time for walks outside, and of course October has my favorite holiday, Halloween!
I don't mind winter if I can be indoors where it's warm (of course that excludes living in Japan, since most places are so cold even indoors!). I don't much like summer in general, and I hate summer in Japan or anywhere that it's hot and humid.

3) Facebook - I joined Facebook reluctantly a couple of years ago when a friend urged me to. Since then I've stayed there because it gives me the chance to stay in touch with, and up to date with, many of my relatives and friends around the world. Email becomes harder and harder with our busy lifestyles, so Facebook is an easy way to keep in touch with them. But in general, I think Facebook is mostly shallow and silly and I don't go there very often. I keep my information, posts, and most photos "friends only" too.

4) Work - Right now my work is both challenging and fun. Both frustrating and rewarding. Teaching English in Japan is definitely one of the most interesting jobs one could have, and it can also drive you crazy! If I can make teaching in Japan my career - that is, to start my own school rather than being an "assistant" and working for someone else - and be in control of my own classes and content, then I think I would be very satisfied. If I can't make that work, then i will return to the U.S. and have to find a new path. Then work could be more "work" than it is now.

5) My best friend - Right now my best friend is my husband. We have our ups and downs, but we are closer than ever, and he takes care of me when I need it as I've taken care of him in the past (and may in the future). My best girl friend, Nikki, is in California and we've lost touch quite a bit lately. I'm not sure why, but she is just preoccupied with her life. My sister used to be a good friend, but lately we have drifted. And of course my mom is always my lifelong best friend!

6) Family - My closest family now is my husband and my cat. And I love them a lot! My father passed away last year, and it's almost been one year that he's been gone. OF course I've been living in Japan, so I don't miss his physical presence so much - though I felt it when I visited my mom's house in August. I do miss knowing that he's there though. And of course I miss being near my mom and my sister and my brother every day. It's hard living away from immediate family, but I talk to my mom once a week, and my sister occasionally. I've always felt blessed to have a family who I am close to. Even my aunts and uncles and cousins have always been great friends!

7) My most prized possession - For me, material things are not important. I value my laptop computer because it connects me to the outside world (tv shows, email, news, friends, family), with skype, live journal, facebook, blogs, etc... and I value things that keep me clothed and warm and fed. As for a prized possession, I can't think what that would be except for my books and photos. Those are valuable. And if you can call a cat a possession, he is most definitely a prize!!

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

hmm interesting...not that I totally believe in the Tarot, but I love the Moon!

What Laura Means

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.
You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.
Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are a very lucky person. Things just always seem to go your way.
And because you're so lucky, you don't really have a lot of worries. You just hope for the best in life.
You're sometimes a little guilty of being greedy. Spread your luck around a little to people who need it.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

hmmm... intense, perfectionist, likely to get into trouble... yes! but lucky - not at all. wish I was though!

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me.

It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.

Whenyou're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.

P.S. - I did this awhile back, but had many different LJ friends then, I think...
if you do this, I'll upload more music, or just tell you I really like you - haha!

randomness

I'm tired. work is so unbelievably busy right now. Today I was pulled in so many different directions that I nearly lost it. I had such a headache. M and I are both so busy with our jobs, but I guess the good thing is that we are earning. which is great since we are spending so darn much. I can't wait until we can start saving... for what, I don't know, but there are many many possibilities for the future...

meanwhile, I absolutely love my apartment. except for the occasionally noisy neighbors downstairs, there are very few things to complain about. we have a couple of pictures on the wall now and I plan to buy some of those shadow boxes (thanks to the suggestion by [personal profile] phantomsgyrl) and more pictures later. it's amazing what a difference it makes with even two pictures! also, we bought a better tv stand which holds more DVD's and looks nicer. and finally, it seems we might be getting a used sofa bed from someone moving back to Japan. I didn't really want a used sofa, but it's only $50 and we can buy a nice cover for it.

Here's my MOVIE RECAP from the last few weeks: I watched "Walk the Line" again a couple nights ago and loved it just as much as the first time. Reese and Joaquin are both so fantastic, and the music always moves me.

And we recently watched the 1975 sci-fi/action/dark comedy called "Death Race 2000" with David Carradine and Sly Stallone. if you haven't seen it, here's the tagline and plot summary from Imdb: "In The Year 2000 Hit And Run Driving Is No Longer A Felony. It's The National Sport!"
Plot Summary: A champion of a brutal cross-country car race of the future where pedestrians are run down for points... So that's about it. a car race in which the racers get points for killing innocent bystanders. The number of points depends on the age of the victims. It's very sick, but it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek, and the violence is the key to the plot. Stallone and Carradine are rivals, and are both out of their element; in other words, they are both better actors then the acting required for this film. Stallone's character is memorable because he's pissed off the entire time. and Carradine's character is called "Frankenstein" because he's supposedly lost so many limbs from racing. there are two or three female racers too, one of them an actress who was in some of Andy Warhol's films. The film is produced by Roger Corman, which might give you an idea of the quality. Death Race is one of those extremely campy movies in which the blood looks like catsup (or ketchup depending on where you live), and in which the acting is stiff and forced. and it's hilarious! if you like campy, over the top movies with gratuitous hit and run violence, then you might like it. if you are easily offended, and are unable to laugh at the ridiculous plot, then avoid it.

On the other end of the spectrum, I also watched "Memoirs of a Geisha." It took me about three sittings since I started watching it in my old apartment and finished it here. I knew I would be slightly disappointed, because I had an aversion to the whole idea of a movie set in Japan, with mostly Chinese actresses, speaking English. Aesthetically it was stunning, from the cinematography to the costumes and sets. and of course the acting was very good. But otherwise, the plot was dull, and I lost interest about halfway through. I just stuck with it to see how it ended. maybe I should have read the book.

I've got a huge list of movies on netflix that I'm looking forward to seeing, so maybe there will be more movie news later.

and before I go, here's the "4 things" meme stolen from [personal profile] dawnie1970. under the cut )
