Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

My words and explanations (with pictures) are below the cuts...

[profile] ageless_aislynn gave me these words:

1. Dean Winchester : one half of the Supernatural demon-hunting Winchester brothers team (the better half if you ask me!), Dean is sexy, funny, loves pie, and loves his family. He looks great in leather, and he's a badass demon killer. What more can you ask for?

2. 80's music : As a child of the '80s, my pre-teen and teen years were filled with days of listening to Duran Duran, REM, U2, Thompson Twins, Simple Minds, Talking Heads, Tears for Fears, Talk Talk, The Fixx, The Cure... I could go on and on...I’d stay up late at night watching MTV (back when it was just music and not all that garbage that’s on there today), and I saw tons of '80s bands live (and I even met members of REM, Psychedelic Furs, & Flock of Seagulls). I had about 200 vinyl LP's at one time, which I have since sold, but I still listen to lots of ‘80s music today.

Does anyone else remember the original VeeJays from MTV, way back when it first started? Here they are (and bonus points if you remember their names):

3. Cillian Murphy : One of my favorite actors, gorgeous Cillian (who hails from Cork, Ireland) has proven from his movie roles that he can play villains and good guys with equal aplomb. I fell in love with him after watching him scare the shit out of Rachel McAdams in Red Eye , and then proceeded to watch all of his films, loving him most in the movies On The Edge, Sunburn and The Wind that Shakes the Barley .

4. Movies : I've been a movie buff for a long long time, and back when I had endless time, I would see a couple movies a week at the theater, as well as watching movies at home or on tv. I love all kinds of movies, from Indiana Jones action to Star Trek or Star Wars sci-fi adventure, to classic old-school horror (original Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead, Halloween), to comedy (as long as it's actually funny!). I hate remakes, and I love Independent film. If anyone asks me for my favorite movies, I have a hard time because I have so many favorites. Movies for me are art, escape, comfort and entertainment, and a way to bond with friends and family.

5. Leo : Leo is my adorable, loveable, huggable 10-year-old orange kitty. Next to my husband, he’s the most important thing in my life right now – he’s a mainstay, always there when I get home from work, always wanting attention and constantly wanting to be fed! Sometimes he drives me crazy when he wakes me up at 3 a.m. crying and knocking things off of my bookshelves, but without Leo, my life would be so empty. Leo came into my life while I was living in Japan. I had been putting out food for a white stray cat who I named Yuki (which means snow in Japanese) for several months, and even put a box with an old blanket out for her to sleep in on my balcony. I went away for a week during Golden Week (the first week of May 1999), and when I came back, instead of finding Yuki in the box on my balcony, I found six little tiny kittens! I let Yuki wean them, and then I kept two, Leo and his sister Hana (who was all white like her mother) – and my friend found homes for the rest. I took Leo and Hana back with me to Washington state, but soon afterwards, Hana got hit by a car. Leo’s been with me all along though, and has moved with my husband and I back and forth from Chicago to Washington to Japan and back to Chicago again. And maybe Leo will have another move to Japan again in his future:)

and from [personal profile] alaerys I got these words:

1. Anna Pacquin : My love for Anna Pacquin started when I saw her play Sookie Stackhouse on the tv series True Blood. I knew she was a great actress, and I remember how good she was in The Piano when she was just a teenager. But she’s really blossomed and become not only lovely, but also very sexy and a terrific heroine and defender of the vampire world. And the lucky girl not only gets intimate onscreen with the vampire Bill Compton, but also offscreen with the gorgeous Steven Moyer who plays Bill. And just to be in the presence of gorgeous Alexander Skaarsgaard who plays Eric, the vampire, is enviable too!

2. True Blood : Because of my love of all things vampire, I started watching True Blood about halfway into season 1 (of course I backtracked and got caught up just before the season ended). And since season 1 ended, I’ve been reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, upon which the tv shows are based. And I’m hooked on both tv show and books, which are similar in some ways but quite different. The tv show is creative, sexy, sometimes scary and always entertaining. And full of gorgeous people all around!

Yummy Eric:

3. Work : What can I say? Work is where I spend way too much of my time, it’s the way I earn money so I can live, and it’s what I’m supposed to be doing most of the time when I’m actually reading and posting on LJ! Good thing I can’t access facebook at work, or I’d be using that to avoid work too. I’ve never really been one of those people who “live to work” – I “work to live”, which probably means I haven’t found anything I really like. I quit teaching because I needed to make enough money to live, so at the moment, my “work” is something that I’m not interested in. I’m not challenged or motivated to do anything but just come here and do what needs to be done. If I had my way, I’d be teaching part time and doing my own writing and creative projects. But who wouldn’t right?

4. Books : Similar to how I feel about movies, books have always been a part of my life, something to escape into, learn from, cheer me up, pass the time. If I was more settled, I’d be surrounded by books, but because I keep moving, I’ve got parts of my book collection in three different locations (my mom’s house, hubby’s parents’ house, and my current apartment). One day, when I finally have a home where I know I’ll be staying for a long time, I’ll have a room dedicated to books, with a big chair where I can go curl up and read, and escape to another world, on rainy afternoons.

5. Fandom : Perhaps Alaerys chose this word for me because we met through mutual friend and Dean lover [personal profile] moondropz, who posts gorgeous picspams on Jensen and Supernatural. I’ve got a few “fandoms” to which I belong (supernatural, true blood, pushing daisies, movies, cillian murphy). But I suppose I can be grateful for Supernatural fandom, and for various other fandoms where I’ve found some of my best LJ friends!

Well I guess i should get back to work (I've been doing some work between compiling these lists), and I need to post a real update later... it's just been so hot this week, and I've felt so bleh, that I haven't felt like posting anything except silly memes like this:)

your words: Vancouver, dogs, james macavoy, sleep, internet

:)

Vancouver: Where I live. Also where Smallville and Supernatural and MANY MANY owners of strange fandoms are filmed. It's loud, it has more asians per capita than any other Canadian city and gays here are loud and proud and for the most part, safe. There's always gonna be haters tho. Stupid haters.

Dogs: *punt* Ah, that's better.

James McAvoy: Sadly, this gorgeous Scottish hottie has taken the number one spot from Jensen Ackles in my "People I'd do many larcenous things to be able to shag for a day" list. I love his versatility and he practically oozes charm while he manages to keep his personal life private. Gotsta respect that. *velcros self to James* Mine.

Sleep: *sad puppy eyes* Something I try to get, but fail massively at. You know how some guys can't 'perform' when they're under pressure? Yeah, well, I can't sleep under pressure. And I sleep even less when I'm sick. Which thankfully, isn't often. I can haz sleep nao?

Internet: Something I leech cuz I can't afford to pay for it. *sad face* I know, I know, I'm horrible and should be flogged in public, but what can I say? I'm addicted to being online. I get all mopey and sad when I can't check my email. It breaks my poor widdow hart. *sniffle* One day I will win the lottery, oh yes, I shall. Then I shall have all the internet I want. Trufax.

oh no poor doggie!!

I loved Vancouver when I was there - for a few days was all...

did I tell you I'm going back to Washington in August and I'll be there through winter? If I can, maybe we can meet up in B.C. - Victoria maybe? (if you want to go there)... or we can figure out something?

I hope you got some sleep - and had nice dreams about James, that gorgeous Scotsman.

I get really mopey when I can't check email too - don't know what I'll do if I ever have computer issues...

by the way, when does the flogging begin? LOL:)

The dog asked for it. :)

Ooh.. Fun fun. We might have to, altho it depends on my financials and what not.

I DID get sleep, and I feel better for it. *stretch* Oh yis, happy tiemz. No dreams of James, but I'll just daydream about him all day. Mmm.. James.

Oh, sorry, you missed the flogging. By like, 10 minutes. Awww. :(

I'll be in touch with you once i get to Washington - maybe I'll go over to Victoria in September... when's your trip to the Island?

yay for sleep!

and boo for missing the flogging. that could have been fun:))

Words! I'm sure I'll prove to be a challenge since I don't actually blog here.

let's see: dark shadows, colorado, supernatural, twitter, blogging

how're those??

posted by [identity profile] gloomybardgirl.livejournal.com at 07:35pm on 26/06/2009
I'll just do it here.

Dark Shadows: Well I've always been a fan of vampires so I of course watched it when it came out in 91 or was it 92. A bonus of course was Michael T Weiss being on it who I loved on Days Of Our Lives. And I really need to go back and watch that episode because I would swear I spotted Joss in a scene.

CO: The place I call Hell. I'm probably the one person in the world that absolutely hates this place. It sucks.

Twitter: I use this for updates for my website and blog. Good practice to not be so wordy.

Blogging: You'd think I'd be blogged about by now after all I did blog at six different blogs for over a year and more than once. I've slowed down with just the two but I manage to pull off blogging each day and it doesn't hurt that I make a little dinero this way.

I lived in Colorado for a long time in my youth, so I guess I have better memories.

you forgot about Supernatural:)

posted by [identity profile] gloomybardgirl.livejournal.com at 08:43pm on 27/06/2009
Oops

Supernatural: This was the show I made an exception to watch because I was pretty pissed when Angel was cancelled. That led to me not wanting to watch shows on this network except for the ones already in multiple seasons which were Smallville and Charmed. I stopped watching One Tree Hill and ironically that made it past the five year curse where most shows get killed.

Anyhoo I've loved Jensen since his days on Days so he caught my attention and it just looked like a cool show. I thought I'd give it a try after all both boys were on shows before this one so I thought it might get a better chance than the others. I went in thinking it might get the one and that if it got more that it would end at season five like the typical show on this network. And now I'm creating porn since someone's a bad influence on me.

I think it's completely different when you willingly move somewhere. I didn't have that choice. It was either stay in CA and live in a cardboard box in the park or go to this crappy place. Sometimes I think I might regret the decision since it's just horrible here and I absolutely hate the weather and don't think much of the people either.

Ooo, awesome answers and great pictures! (And I see I had apostrophe!fail with the '80s, oops! Sorry 'bout that! ;) )

I just love memes like this, you get to find out such interesting things! :D Red Eye was the first thing I saw Cillian in also (and you're right about watching him scare the *ahem* out of Rachel... and me as well!). He freaked me out, no doubt, but he's such a compelling presence, isn't he? :D ;)

Thanks so much for doing this! *hugs!* ♥♥♥!!!

posted by [identity profile] laurainlimbo.livejournal.com at 04:44pm on 30/06/2009
aw, thanks honey! I liked your idea of including pics, so I had fun with that:) hehe the apostrophe. no worries:) I'm not even sure I noticed the way you wrote '80s - I just copied and pasted your words.
but I remember teaching my students about where to put the apostrophes with certain words. Like never with any plurals... I am an English teacher at heart, so I'm guess I'm pretty picky about apostrophes and commas, etc.

you should watch Cillian Murphy in a non-scary role. he's very cute and sexy!

thanks for reading my answers - I had fun doing this:)
*hugs*
