movies, and a music request
weekends on LJ are depressing - there's hardly anyone around. my email inbox is empty:(
but the good news is that our storms seem to have gone. however, we're now in the middle of a heatwave - yesterday it was nearly 90 with high humidity, and today it's already 80 degrees out at 10:30 a.m.
the weekend's been busy so far. we went swimming after work Friday, then watched Zack and Mirri Make a Porno . The concept was a great one, and I thought the porn filming scenes were hilarious (especially Star Whores), but overall I was disappointed. But I think it's because I'm not a big fan of Kevin Smith movies in general. I liked Clerks when it came out years ago, but I hated Chasing Amy and haven't been able to watch any of Smith's other films. I don't think Zack and Mirri was a terrible film, and some scenes and characters (especially Lester) had me laughing out loud. And don't get me wrong - I can cuss up a storm when I want to, and I'm not shocked by hearing the word fuck in the movies. but does it really need to be in every line of dialogue? It's a bit too much. as was the (literal) bathroom humor. Also, for me there was too much focus on the Zack and Mirri falling in "love" - I think a love story is great, but they didn't even finish the stupid porno because they loved each other too much. a greater story would have been if they actually finished the porno and realized that it didn't affect their love for each other... or something like that.
Yesterday to beat the heat, we went to the movie theater to see Terminator: Salvation and we loved it! Christian Bale was awesome as John Connor, and I loved seeing Chekhov (aka Anton Yelchin) as Kyle Reese. Sam Worthington was really hot too! They totally left that open for more sequels too. But if Christian Bale continues to play John Connor, I'll be there to see them all!
Now we want to go and see Johnny Depp play John Dillinger in Public Enemies .
I can't wait to see Johnny and Christian Bale together (Christian will play FBI chief and original Untouchable Melvin Purvis). That movies starts 4th of July weekend!
before I go, I have a request. I need some new music to listen to... so what are you all listening to now? please give me suggestions, I'm open for anything (except rap and country - sorry!)
now I've gotta go and call my dad and wish him a happy father's day. he just got home from the nursing home on Thursday and he's doing really good!

I'm glad you liked Terminator! I saw that a couple weeks ago, and I really loved the Kyle Reese character. The action was great, too.
I CANNOT WAIT FOR PUBLIC ENEMIES! I'm so excited to see Johnny on the big screen. :)
Here's some music I'm currently listening to:
Ben Folds Five-The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner
Ben Folds-Rockin' The Suburbs
Belle & Sebastian-Dear Catastrophe Waitress and The Life Pursuit
Amy Millan-Honey From the Tombs
All of them are some of my favorite albums EVER. I hope you enjoy! They come highly listened to and highly recommended.

I loved Chasing Amy until it got so serious and dramatic... in general, I love Kevin Smith movies... Clerks and Dogma will always be favorites. :-)
Let's see... right now I'm listening to the "Yeah Yeah Yeah's." Kind of funky, but good stuff. You could always pop in some Pink Floyd... Tori Amos... Sarah McLachlan... Nickleback... Linkin Park... Lots of good stuff out there!

I'm totally looking forward to Public Enemies, I saw the trailer when we went to see Transformers yesterday.
The last two CDs I bought were Pink's Funhouse and H.I.M.'s Dark Light, both of which I'm enjoying very much. They are totally different from each other, and neither are rap or country!

Music-wise, I've been really enjoying Greg Laswell lately, which I first heard through "Off I Go." I still have yet to get any of his albums, but I definitely want them, particularly the most recent one! What I've heard so far, though, I really like. :D In the meanwhile, I've been listening to his myspace page over and over. ;) At least it's a great, free way to hear several full length songs, lol! ;)
I haven't been able to see the new Terminator yet (I just managed Star Trek the other day ;) ) but I hope to see it eventually! :D I've loved the other movies in their own ways so I'm sure I'll love this one as well! \o/
Ugh, I hate the heat/humidity combination! High humidity makes it so hard for me to breathe, argh! :( It's been SO humid here lately and half the time it feels like I have an elephant standing on my chest, yikes! O_O Hopefully the weather will improve for us both soon! :D
*big hugs!* ♥♥♥!!!

It's good to read you liked Christian in Terminator, so many people are criticizing what he did. I loved him as well as Sam Worthington. Now all I hope is that we'll get a sequel. And of course I'm waiting eagerly for Public Enemies, for both Christian and Marion.

I think I'll wait until the DVD comes out for Terminator. None of the rest of the family is too bothered.
Hmmm. Music. I've rediscovered lots of old stuff since I had my iPod. I also downloaded the Snow Patrol album (Eyes Open) the other day. And I like Maroon Five, Songs About Jane - keep listening to that one. For heavier stuff, I like 30 Seconds to Mars, A Beautiful Lie.

You mentioned going to the movie theater to get out of the heat. Do you not have air conditioning at your place?

Re: Kevin Smith. I've always liked him and I usually like his movies, but I can't stand the toilet/gross-out humor. I just find it to be so unimaginative and boring (and disgusting!) :-) He uses it more in some movies than others, with Clerks 2 being a major offender. I don't ever want to see that one again...ugh! I enjoyed Zack and Miri, but I wish he would have left out the potty humor. And I wish it would have been more about them making Star Whores. That was a really funny idea! :-)
I'm so glad you enjoyed Terminator Salvation. We liked it okay, but my main complaint was that there wasn't enough Christian Bale! :-) I read somewhere that the next film in the series might feature Christian time-traveling back to London, circa 2009. I think that could be really interesting! And of course, I'm also quite excited about Public Enemies. We'll be going to see it that first weekend, too.
Re: Music. I listen to a lot of movie soundtracks/scores. Do you like them? Some of my favorites are Donnie Darko, Labyrinth, Return to Oz, and The Assassination of Jesse James. We watched the movie "Wonderland" the other day and now I want to get that soundtrack, too (it's got a lot of good classic rock!) I also just got Mandy Moore's new CD, "Amanda Leigh." Are you familiar with her more recent music? It reminds me a lot of the 70's singer-songwriters. Her last CD "Wild Hope" is really great...it's very breezy and uplifting, but also very honest and inspiring. I love it!

Natascha watched Zack and Mirri Make a Porno and said reviewed it just like you. She said it was fun and she laughed but it wasn't great. She's in Tennessee right now and went with her Grandma to see The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. She said it was a good movie but it was weird hearing the word 'fuck' about 100 times with her grandmother sitting right next to her. ;-)
I've been listening to Boz Scaggs all weekend. I loved him in the 70's and 80's. He's kind of jazzy and his music relaxes me.
Have a good week, Laura.
