more johnny goodness

Boy, Tim Burton sure is ambitious. First I hear of his plans to do the Dark Shadows movie with Johnny Depp. And now I see that he's also doing a weird movie version of Alice in Wonderland , also with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, and with his lovely wife Helena Bonham Carter (who I absolutely love, but who can look absolutely freakish sometimes) as the Red Queen. This might not be news for some of you, but I just found out about it this weekend.

also, when we went to see Terminator the other day, we saw the trailer for the animated movie called 9 - I thought it was a Tim Burton movie but when I look at the imdb, he's listed as the producer only. it looks like a very bizarre and dark movie. but wasn't this a short film first? or is it still? I'm confused...

in other news, it looks like it will be a hot day - and a hot week. And my boss is sending me to some off site storage unit to get a file. he calls it an "adventure" - I call it a pain in the butt!

I posted about 9 in February! It was a short film (full video at my post), and got picked up by Tim Burton to be made into a feature length, still directed by the guy that made the short film I believe. Last I knew it is coming out on 9/9/09! :D

I'm looking forward to Alice in Wonderland, it is perfect for being Burtonised! :D

yea I remember when you wrote about this little film, and I had bookmarked your post, as well as the link to the film, but never watched it. I just get so distracted sometimes. it looks like a really interesting film - but awfully dark and gloomy.

you're right - Burton is the perfect person to do a bizarre Alice in Wonderland, though I'm not sure I like the way Johnny looks so freakish again, like his Willy Wonka character. he can be so over the top sometimes:)

Dark and gloomy and post-apocalyptic is just my thing! :D

I didn't look at the article you linked to before, he does look freakish! But I love all his freakish characters (well, almost all his characters actually!) and I'm sure this one will be just the same!

did you even like JOhnny as Willy Wonka? I thought his portrayal was frightening, and I couldn't even watch him. it was just too weird. I loved the original Willy Wonka film with Gene Wilder. he was perfect:) Johnny might do better with the Mad Hatter, but the look seems to be computer graphically altered, as is Helena's Red Queen.

Yep, I certainly did! And also I far prefer Johnny's Wonka to Gene Wilder's, the whole film was much truer to the book (except for the flashback stuff, of course).

Yeah, looks like there will be CG-enhancement, they've made Helena's head pretty big! :D

I love Johnny but I just couldn't handle his Willy Wonka. I wonder if it's a generation thing - but I just much prefer the older version of Willy Wonka - even though it might not be as true to the book, for me the characters were better. but I grew up watching it so maybe that makes a difference.

OMG I am so excited for Alice in Wonderland! It's one of my favorite stories, and I don't care that Tim uses all the same people in his cast, lol. I love Johnny Depp.

It's hot here as well! Argh. 87 tomorrow. Yikes.

I know - I studied the book in college, and I've always loved the story of Alice. it's so multi-leveled and full of symbolic meanings. Tim will make it quite bizarre too:)

we're melting out here - but that's summer, I guess!

he also produced (ant wrote but not directed) nightmare before christmas and many people think he directed!

I was one of those people - I always thought Tim directed that film too.

I heard about the new Alice film from Stephen Fry - I follow his Tweets. He's the Cheshire Cat. Looks like an interesting take on the story.

oh I love Stephen Fry - he'd be great as the Cheshire cat!

Wouldn't he? :-D

I'm looking forward to 9. I didn't know about the Alice movie. I don't really see Johnny Depp as a Mad Hatter type, but what do I know? :) How did you like Terminator, btw?

If my boss sent me out of the office, I'd probably make it a...leisurely trip. Good time for ice cream, perhaps. ;)

[identity profile] laurainlimbo.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
well when I saw the trailer for 9, I didn't know what to think. but the animation looks incredible.

oh I couldn't make the trip out of the office leisurely because I had to go with two other girls. it was to a storage facility and it was miserably hot this morning, even at 9 a.m.! now I might sneak out at lunchtime and get some ice cream - that's an idea:)

[identity profile] laurainlimbo.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
oh I forgot - Terminator:Salvation was great! at least we both really loved it. I wrote a little bit about what I liked on my last post. I really liked Christian Bale as John Connor, and the kid who played Chekhov in the new Star Trek film plays Kyle Reese (John's father as a teen). I thought it was a very good sequel.

ah, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter - he will do a good job as long as he doesn't do what he did for Willy Wonka, which was to make the character totally freaky and unwatchable.

anyway, hope you're doing good:)
*hugs*

All I can say is thank heavens we have Tim Burton in this lifetime, genius, even if I havent enjoyed all of his work....

[identity profile] laurainlimbo.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
you're right - he is a genius. so visionary, and refreshing. I didn't like all his movies either, but I totally respect his work!

Oh yeah, I can't wait to see Alice in Wonderland as well as 9... my pops show me a trailer for it a couple of months ago and I think it looks goooood.

Hope your "adventure" doesn't suck too badly!

I saw some of the stills of the movie a few weeks back, it looks so surreal and amazing.

[identity profile] laurainlimbo.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
it should be very interesting!
