I think I'm the last person on my friends list to find out that Michael Jackson died.
I wrote about Farrah Fawcett this morning, and I just checked the headlines and saw the news about Michael Jackson. I'm in shock. Seriously it can't be true.

This has been a really big day. I'm going to post later about some really big changes coming up in our lives too. But now if I write anything it will be overshadowed by this really huge news about the King of Pop!

RIP Michael. I will always love you.

I know that a lot of people really admire him and all... and he was an absolutely talented guy. But honestly... and this may sound terrible... I don't honestly care too much. Or about Farrah. Or about Ed McMahon. Honestly, I don't get all freaky when celebrities pass... to me, their passing is no more or less important than anybody else's... honestly, my heart goes out more to those people over in Iran that are being killed in the streets for daring to suggest that their vote counts. Maybe I'm callous.

I'll look forward to hearing about your big upcoming changes!!!!

I didn't care much about Ed McMahon - I wasn't a fan of the tonight show, and Ed was annoying. but Farrah was such a big idol when I was younger, for my older sister especially. and even though I didn't own Michael's albums, I loved his music and he was so prominent in the '80s, when I was in high school. a big part of my youth and MTV culture.
nah, you're not callous, you're like my husband who's much more concerned with economic news than about entertainment news. you show that you're a very concerned and conscientious person to worry about the people in Iran. I worry about that too, but I'm not sure what we can do.

anyway, stay tuned - I'm hoping for a moment or two to blog today about my big life changes: we're leaving Chicago. and I might be in Japan next spring!

more later!

Oh, I definitely understand why some people are so moved when an icon dies... I understand it, I just don't get it personally. And in the interest of full disclosure, I was never a big fan of his... talented, yes. Just not my bag, personally. :-)

Oh my! In Japan??? Awesome! I can't wait to hear all about it!!!

I just wrote about my plans in my blog. It's for a filtered list, but you should be able to read it.
it's a big change, but I'm excited.

and as for Michael Jackson, I totally understand. I'm not a huge fan, but I just feel sad anyway.

Not the last. I woke up to the news this morning. Last night before I went to bed I read that he'd been admitted to hospital, but no other info.

Very sad.

I heard about MJ right after a big exam I had to take for my surgery rotation. I really like your new layout (sorry for not being around for so long and not knowing how long you've changed your layout from the sunflower theme). How've you been?

Hey Alex - it's good to hear from you!! I'm sorry I've been really bad at staying in touch too - I've been meaning to email you for awhile, but just didn't have much to report. I did finish the paralegal program - but now it might not even mean anything since we are moving from Chicago in September! we just decided yesterday - I am meaning to post about this later on LJ, and I can send you an email too. if things work out, I might be back in Japan by next spring. but this time I'm optimistic - things will be better. I've got lots to report, so I'll email you later!

p.s. - I think I've changed my layout a few times since the sunflowers, you've been gone awhile:)

*hugs* - I hope you're doing good!!

oh that's cool you're going to Japan - do you know what city? I'd love to meet you at some point - in Japan or California. it should happen if we try.

I just wrote a long entry about my plans - if you get a chance to read it, that's great. I might try to email you too:)

*hugs*

Strangely enough, I don't feel too sad about Michael Jackson's passing. Nor really Ed McMahon or Farrah Fawcett. Ed was sudden, but I wasn't too attached to him. Farrah was basically a case where I could see death coming, just not this soon. Jackson's was sudden and unexpected, but I think I might have felt sadder if he died whilst on top of his game or something. Since he's basically disappeared from the limelight for more than five years, it's hard to really feel something big for his death. I realize that celebrity deaths warrant some news, but I don't feel too sad because it wasn't as if they were part of my family. It's a really odd thought to have a world without Michael Jackson, though.

It's such a stunning loss. It's strange for me to imagine a world without Michael Jackson because he's been a huge star for my entire life. I have such fond childhood memories of scaring myself silly watching the Thriller video. (I know that probably sounds weird but it's true!) :-)

it is a big losso for the entertainment world and for our whole generation. I loved the Thriller video - it didn't scare me because I was such a big horror fan, but I loved the concept and the makeup and the dancing:)

I'm scrolling through my flist, last to first, so hopefully I'll scroll up and read your exciting news soon.
You're so much more interesting to me than Michael Jackson. In fact, I'm tired of hearing about him.

aw, thanks. to be told that I'm more interesting than Michael Jackson is a big compliment. honestly I think it's just an excuse for the media circus, making speculations on how he died, and digging up his past. it's sad, he can't be left at peace when he dies.
