I was just telling my husband the other night, actually it was on New Year's Eve, that when I was 11 years old, I was in love with ABBA. I so so much wanted to be like those beautiful girls - I would sit and stare at their pictures on the album covers, and listen to ABBA albums over and over again. Agnetha and Frida were my idols. They got to wear the coolest clothes, they had amazing singing voices, and they were supremely popular all over the world. Even 30 years later, their music is still popular, and they still reign as the kings and queens of international pop!

So, I'm not ashamed to admit, I'd love to be a member of ABBA - perhaps Agnetha since she was always my favorite. I mean just look at her when she was younger:

And here's a clip of ABBA doing what they did best:

and I had to throw in this clip, because - wow - look at those outfits!!:

Abba are great, definitely a good choice, their music is still hugely popular after all this time. That second video is quite funny, not only the outfits (a cape, really?!) but also the way they keep trying to be facing the camera and not always succeeding!

I love Abba, always have and always will:) I will have to rewatch that second vid and see the cape - the clothes those girls wore was quite funny. in one video I found, they were wearing skirts that just came below their butts, and knee-high boots. very racy, but they could pull it off with their gorgeous figures and long legs.

I read that Agnetha was very unhappy with her life in Abba, and hated the attention she got. she was good at hiding it most times though.

They could definitely get away with quite a lot with the way they looked!

Didn't she become a recluse for many years? I can understand it being hard to deal with the attention they got back then.

yes, Agnetha was a recluse, and still is to an extent, I guess. but she's seeing some very rich man, who is close friends with the king of Sweden, and some articles I read said she's not that private anymore. she did attend the Mamma Mia premiere.

Another of my friends posted Happy New Year - I don't think I've heard it before!

I guess it didn't make it out of Sweden then. I liked it too.

oops...had meant to post earlier, seems I didn't.

I wonder--so did you have any ABBA-like outfits? Back in the day, we wore all sorts of short shorts, most definitely. It was the '70's afterall! :)

and wondering again--have you watched "Mama Mia" yet? You really should, Laura, I think you'd like it.

oh no, I was never so cool as to have ABBA-like outfits! I was such a geek when I was a pre-teen and teenager. and since I was into ABBA when I was only 11, my clothes couldn't be racy at all. I didn't wear short skirts until I was older, and definitely don't wear them now - LOL!

I haven't seen Mamma Mia, mostly because I don't like the idea of ABBA songs being sung by actors with no training in singing. I saw some clips and shuddered. but maybe I should watch it just to honor the band.

I just spend the evening downloading Abba videos. How fun is that. I loved the movie Mamma Mia, it was great. I'm going to make a DVD with the videos so I can watch it when I'm exercising.

that is fun! I confess I've never seen Mamma Mia - I guess I never liked the idea of other people singing Abba songs, but everyone says it's such a great film.
