trains are tiring

Wow I'm tired. It's unbelievable how tired one can get after taking the train for 2 hours and then walking 15 minutes, and then having a 90 minute job interview, which includes a 5-minute video demonstration and Japanese introduction! Thankfully I opted for the more expensive (much more expensive!!) option of taking the bullet train back home, so I cut the commute time from 2 hours to 45 minutes. Gotta love the Shinkansen!! But the whole day's worth of train rides cost me about $60.00 round trip! What an expensive job interview. Plus I was hungry because all I ate for lunch was a small egg salad sandwich from the train station convenience store and some chocolate.

oh and something funny. My bullet train was number 666, and I rode in car number 6. And 6 has always been my favorite lucky number. good sign? I hope so!

But I'm home now, tired and dizzy, and ready for some wine and maybe an episode of White Collar... if I can stay awake.

more on the job interview and other stuff later...

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'll say a bullet---2 hours to 45 minutes! There are plans here in IL for a high-speed train between Chicago & St Louis...A round trip for $60 doesn't seem like that much when you think about what you'd have to pay for gas & parking, and don't forget the aggravation!!

Keeping fingers crossed for you that you'll hear about a job soon!

yea it's pretty amazing how fast those trains are. wow a train between chicago and st. louis? is there that much need? oh yea there's no way to drive to Hamamatsu - it's two hours by train but maybe four by car. and parking is impossible in the japanese cities.

thanks! I hope to know soon too!

*hugs*

There probably would be a market for a high speed rail train b/t Chicago & St. Louis. I know there are several flights from Midway every day. Heck, there are 4 trains a day between here (in Champaign) & Chicago (2 in the a.m., 2 in the p.m.). So I think a 'bullet' train that would avoid the airport/traffic there would probably be popular & I think the hope would be for a better price than flying.

the u.s. should have more alternative methods of transportation than cars and planes. I know the trains here are expensive, but it's more efficient and better for the environment too.

Holy cow! What kind of public transportation cost $60 in a day? I hope they have some kind of monthly pass for you if you end up getting the job there. *_*

Good luck with your job hunt, Laura. Happy Valentine's day and may the Year of Tiger bring you vigor and energy! Happy New Year!

oh the job wouldn't be in Hamamatsu - that would be way too far to commute daily. it's 2 hours one way. even the 45-minute shinkansen is too much. the company's HQ is there, but the job would be in Fuji, where I live.

thanks! I hope your Valentine's day was nice too!

I love the bullet train - if it were just less expensive. it's very luxurious.

oh I didn't let the 6's bother me. I love the number 6, and being in the sixth car made it more interesting. and I got home so quickly:)

yes effort is certainly being made on my part. I hope that they realize that I will be an asset. plus I need the assets - LOL!

playing with words is fun:)

$60 for job interview, oh holy cow!

[identity profile] laurainlimbo.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
well yes the trains cost $60. it's worth it if I can get a job though. I'll make $60 in a half days' work.

Ugh, isn't it awful? When I used to commute I hated it so much. It is exhausting!

[identity profile] laurainlimbo.livejournal.com 2010-02-18 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
thankfully I won't have to do this kind of commute if I get the job I want. it will be closer to home:)
