I'm back from my four-day training! It was exhausting, overwhelming, but awesome. I met some great people, learned a lot of very valuable information, got a lot of materials and ideas, and came home with tons of resources that we're allowed to use while we are teaching. I also made some great friends who I hope to stay in touch with over the next year or so...

I want to write a proper update and more details, but for the time being, I'm just going to say hi and write more later. My brain is still processing everything that I've learned, and I still have some paperwork and details to sort out before I can really relax this week.

Next week I'm scheduled to meet the heads of the Board of Education for my city (and introduce myself in Japanese - yikes!), and then I start officially teaching on April 12th! In the meantime, I need to continue to perfect my self-introduction lessons that will begin my year of teaching at each of my three schools. Also, I have to go through the mounds of papers and lesson plans and notes that I brought back with me from this training. It's crazy!

anyway, sorry I'm very behind on everyone's lives and it may take me awhile to get caught up. If something interesting is going on, please link me to it, or just drop by and say hi and let me know what's going on.

by the way, is it still cold where you all are? it's freezing here!!!!!

oh and I'll leave you with this adorable story I found about a cat who took care of some puppies whose mother died. It's so sweet!

(but make sure you don't read the ignorant, rude comments people posted about how the dog's owner is a terrible pet owner because she didn't spay the dog)

well, take care and I'll see everyone soon!

I'm so glad to hear that your training went well and that you met some nice people! :D

Good luck with your upcoming meeting, I'm sure you'll do fantastic! :D And yay for your teaching being about to begin as well! :D

Ahem, about the weather... I probably shouldn't mention that I'm sitting here in shorts because it went into the 80s today. *shamefaced* ;)

I've had a rough week, lots to do and I've had to do it all while not feeling really great. But hopefully the worst of it all is over now and I can get a bit of rest now. *fingers crossed* (So please excuse this comment if I'm not making sense, lol! ;) )

Always great to hear from you and take care! *hugs you* ♥!

I'm really glad it went well too - it was a great time!

I'm nervous about meeting the Board of Education people because I'll have to speak Japanese. my Japanese sucks lately. but I guess I'll just struggle through it. the teaching will begin soon too - eeks!

oh, lucky you with the warm weather. we'll get it soon enough here though. then I'll be complaining about heat!

oh sorry that you've had a rough week. I also hope you can get some rest. take care!!!!
and thanks for the little sugary bunny on my profile page. you're always so sweet!!

I knew you would rock bb, I'm so proud of you! ♥

We are in the middle of a state of emergency due to flood conditions, had some leaks in the house and such, but nothing horrific, the weekend is supposed to dry out and be Spring warm, can't wait!

Do they celebrate secular Easter in Japan? Curiosity.

oh no!!! state of emergency?? I'm so worried - are you ok? and leaks in the house? oh hon, I hope things are okay. please keep me posted, okay?

I do hope that things get warmed up and sunny and you can get out and about. spring should be nice, not wet!!

to answer your question, Easter is not celebrated in Japan as such. There are Christians here who probably do have services for Palm Sunday and Easter. and with all the foreigners living around the country, there's bound to be some celebration of the holiday. but overall they don't do the same as they do for Christmas - there's no big easter bunnies or easter candies here. I wish I could buy a big chocolate egg though - LOL!

hope you and your kids have a great holiday though!

Yes, yes, we are fine, it's receding now, and we only got a little water in the house, fixable for a few hundred dollars, not awesome, but nowhere as bad as it could have been.

*snuggles you tight*

Sounds like your new employer runs good training sessions!

It's been really cold here too, we've also had rain for 2 days straight and it was very windy overnight, our wheelie bin went for a walk yesterday evening!

yes, I'm very impressed with the company - they're organized, efficient, give us great materials, and they're super fun and nice too! I feel lucky. Now if all works out well with my schools, and there are no other catastrophes, then I'll be happy!

wonder why the weather turned all of a sudden everywhere. well let's hope it warms up soon!

We've got more snow forecast in the next few days, and up in Scotland they had it really bad earlier in the week, it's now April but still freezing!

thanks! yes things with my job are going super positively. I feel good about that. but unfortunately just at the same time, my husband is starting to crash again. I'm going to post about it soon, but I'm bracing for how to deal with this all over again.

I'll keep you posted on the intros and the start of school and all...

I agree, but I think there were issues and questions as to the dog's health, so I wonder if that's why the owner didn't get her spayed. It is very important to get animals neutered, but I was just upset at all the angry and mean comments to what was meant to be a lovely, heart-warming story. if the author had intended to discuss the issue of spaying and neutering, that would have been a different story, I'm sure.

but you're right - I have always tried my best to save animals. my cat was born to a stray, and after she had her litter, my neighbor and a good friend who works in a grooming shop caught her and got her spayed before we let her back into the neighborhood again. as it was, it was a hard task finding homes for 4 kittens - if you think America is bad, Japan is three times worse. no one wants "mutts" here, and so many cats are wandering around outside uncared for. it's heartbreaking for sure.

you're right. getting pregnant must be so hard on animals if they're already sick. and the whole burden of giving birth. people are careless as pet owners sometimes.

mutts and strays are sometimes some of the best pets. I get mad at the Japanese people sometimes because they're so interested in pure-bred dogs, and spend so much money on dogs when there are strays that need homes. I wish I had more time I'd try to do more for the homeless animal cause here in Japan.
