I need more friends on Live Journal. I have some great friends on here now, but so many of my long-time LJ friends don't post anymore, have migrated to Facebook permanently, or just disappeared with no trace. I've gone from having an average of 15 comments per post, to about 3-4. I know I don't post anything interesting these days - but even when I do picture posts, I'm not sure who's reading. I know that some people say that it's not necessary to have replies to your posts on here. But if I didn't want some interaction, then I'd just make my entries private, or just keep a paper journal. I write on here to vent, but also to share, and have conversations. So I want active friends.
I've thought about things like LJ Idol, but I'm afraid to share my writing with strangers. I know there's lots of fandoms, but so many of them seem too young. So, I don't know where to find active LJ'ers who want to get to know me.
Can anyone suggest anything?

it's raining and I wanted to go for a walk but it's cold out there!
I could do a friendzy - not sure how to go about it though...

Basically you make a public post that you are looking for friends, or steal verbiage from someone who just posted a friendzy, then ask your friends to share with their friends lists ;)
I think there is still a link to one in the first page of my entries.

Maybe check out some communities on here. It all depends on what you're interested in. I can't think of the name but there are some penpal communities on here if you're looking for friends.

But I would say try Second Chance Idol. You really never know what will happen, and the people are super awesome :)

if there's another deadline, let me know:) I'll try to meander over there and see if I can figure out how to join.
thanks for the suggestion!

The deadline did pass, but there may be other chances to play in the future. I say join and chat in the GR, play the Home Game (where you don't compete) and trust me, you will meet people.
The Green Rooms are posted daily (or almost daily) and it's just where you socialize. People talk amongst themselves and whatnot. Nothing you have to do or anything.
And most of the writing is not fandoms. In fact, fandoms don't tend to go over well. Fiction is written, but a good chunk of what people write is nonfiction (I write more nonfiction than fiction). It's fun :)

I might be okay with nonfiction - I'm just starting to get into fiction writing and I'm not very good.

Gary/clauderainsrm will post an entry almost daily, though the time varies (sometimes its really early in the morning, sometimes late at night), and it's just a place to chat and talk. He usually says something or another as a conversation starter. They are in the group titled "Green Room" with the week and day number behind it.
Anyone can post there and respond to comments. In fact, people love when new people come in and say "hi". It's a friendly bunch. ETA: if anything, come say hi to Java or myself, we will chat with you and you might be surprised who else says "hi".
For now, Home Game entries will be linked in there. Once Second Chance is over, there may be a specific thread. It's where you can write on the topic without being in a poll.
Nonfiction does really well. Some people only write nonfiction and some only like nonfiction. So you'll be fine. I practiced my fiction through the seasons though and I've gotten better, but I primarily write nonfiction :)

Have you tried any addme communities? Lots of the people there are in their 20's and under, but there are some older ones, too. I know for a fact that Harry Potter fandom at least has a lot of older fans because I remember that when I got into the fandom in 2001, most of the active people were older than I was or around my age (21 then). I would guess that Supernatural fandom has older fans, too, since it's such a big one.
You can also do what I've done a couple of times; search for people by interest or location, check out their profiles and journals to see what kind of people they are and when you find some you like, just ask if they're interested in new LJ friends. Some probably aren't, but you may find a few who are. Just make sure to comment instead of randomly friending people who don't know you from somewhere. :)

...I don't know how alive the communities are, but they might help some.
