I need more friends on Live Journal. I have some great friends on here now, but so many of my long-time LJ friends don't post anymore, have migrated to Facebook permanently, or just disappeared with no trace. I've gone from having an average of 15 comments per post, to about 3-4. I know I don't post anything interesting these days - but even when I do picture posts, I'm not sure who's reading. I know that some people say that it's not necessary to have replies to your posts on here. But if I didn't want some interaction, then I'd just make my entries private, or just keep a paper journal. I write on here to vent, but also to share, and have conversations. So I want active friends.

I've thought about things like LJ Idol, but I'm afraid to share my writing with strangers. I know there's lots of fandoms, but so many of them seem too young. So, I don't know where to find active LJ'ers who want to get to know me.

Can anyone suggest anything?

hehe - I'm just sitting around today trolling on LJ - LOL!!
it's raining and I wanted to go for a walk but it's cold out there!
I could do a friendzy - not sure how to go about it though...

I understand! I hate walking in the rain!

Basically you make a public post that you are looking for friends, or steal verbiage from someone who just posted a friendzy, then ask your friends to share with their friends lists ;)

I think there is still a link to one in the first page of my entries.

I found your link and requested a few friends - and even posted an intro request. but i'm very late, so I wonder who will read it:)

maybe join some LJ communities and start being active in those?

You do better than I ever did. I've never been able to get comments at any of my blogs so I decided to stop blogging altogether. I'm not really on here all that much.

Maybe check out some communities on here. It all depends on what you're interested in. I can't think of the name but there are some penpal communities on here if you're looking for friends.

I really think you should jump into Idol, Laura. It will do more for you and your writing than you can possibly know. And as luck would have it, you can sign up for Second Chance Idol right now!!! The deadline to sign up is on Thursday. Don't think, just do!!! go for it. You'll meet great people and you will grow as a writer. You can do it. There is nothing to be afraid of. Yes, they're strangers now but they'll be friends sooner than you think!

I might try LJ Idol, but I'm not good with fiction. I missed the deadline, though... I'm also not good with timing these days!

Idol doesn't necessarily have to be fiction though. It can be whatever direction you take the prompt. You'll totally have to play next season since it will unfortunately, be the final one!

It's been the same for me? But I am pretty good with that-it gives me some time to read my friend's posts and make some comments? I am a bad LJ'er in that I don't always have time to reply to a post. :/ But I am here, and I do read your entries. :) And thank you for my v-gift! I love it!
*Hugs you*

I am happy here? I miss some of the LJ's who seem to have fallen off the face of...LJ? So I try to keep in touch with everyone who still posts!
Not really? I spnt the 14th at the hospital having one of those injections in my back? Nothing serious but we're trying to help my back and legs with the pain.
*Hugs*

I would suggest joining LJ Idol and trying the Second Chance Idol that's going on now. Or if you are too nervous, just go Home Game it (not playing officially and you can write fandom to your hearts desire) and play in the Green Rooms that are posted daily. You WILL make friends that way, I promise.

But I would say try Second Chance Idol. You really never know what will happen, and the people are super awesome :)

sign ups are here:

I think I missed the deadlines for LJ and second chance - I've just been too busy in real life and preoccupied. I don't really understand how the green rooms and all that work. and I don't know how to write for fandoms - I've never done it. I'm really more introverted lately than I like to be...

if there's another deadline, let me know:) I'll try to meander over there and see if I can figure out how to join.

thanks for the suggestion!

Preoccupied was the topic for this week. How ironic :)

The deadline did pass, but there may be other chances to play in the future. I say join and chat in the GR, play the Home Game (where you don't compete) and trust me, you will meet people.

The Green Rooms are posted daily (or almost daily) and it's just where you socialize. People talk amongst themselves and whatnot. Nothing you have to do or anything.

And most of the writing is not fandoms. In fact, fandoms don't tend to go over well. Fiction is written, but a good chunk of what people write is nonfiction (I write more nonfiction than fiction). It's fun :)

I keep forgetting to check these Green Rooms out - how do I find these?

I might be okay with nonfiction - I'm just starting to get into fiction writing and I'm not very good.

It can be a little tricky.

Gary/clauderainsrm will post an entry almost daily, though the time varies (sometimes its really early in the morning, sometimes late at night), and it's just a place to chat and talk. He usually says something or another as a conversation starter. They are in the group titled "Green Room" with the week and day number behind it.

Anyone can post there and respond to comments. In fact, people love when new people come in and say "hi". It's a friendly bunch. ETA: if anything, come say hi to Java or myself, we will chat with you and you might be surprised who else says "hi".

For now, Home Game entries will be linked in there. Once Second Chance is over, there may be a specific thread. It's where you can write on the topic without being in a poll.

Nonfiction does really well. Some people only write nonfiction and some only like nonfiction. So you'll be fine. I practiced my fiction through the seasons though and I've gotten better, but I primarily write nonfiction :)

Hello! I got here through your comment in [livejournal.com profile] goffburd's journal. :)

Have you tried any addme communities? Lots of the people there are in their 20's and under, but there are some older ones, too. I know for a fact that Harry Potter fandom at least has a lot of older fans because I remember that when I got into the fandom in 2001, most of the active people were older than I was or around my age (21 then). I would guess that Supernatural fandom has older fans, too, since it's such a big one.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets has sometimes got friending posts, you can keep an eye out for them or browse through the old ones to see if there are people you'd like to contact. You may have to scroll far, though, as I think it's been a while since the last and the community gets updated daily. Communities in general are a great way of getting to know people.

You can also do what I've done a couple of times; search for people by interest or location, check out their profiles and journals to see what kind of people they are and when you find some you like, just ask if they're interested in new LJ friends. Some probably aren't, but you may find a few who are. Just make sure to comment instead of randomly friending people who don't know you from somewhere. :)

There are many addme-communites with a theme (e.g. anime and there might be one for Supernatural etc). Since you seemed worried about people's age, here's a few that might fit you:

[livejournal.com profile] addme_30andover
[livejournal.com profile] addmeover30
[livejournal.com profile] addme30plus
[livejournal.com profile] addme25_and_up
[livejournal.com profile] add_me_over25
[livejournal.com profile] fortysomething

...I don't know how alive the communities are, but they might help some.

More addme-communties:

I'd join some fandom groups and not worry about the age. Some the most awesome people I've made friends wit are much younger or older than me. We've had good times on lj and have even met in rl. So I wouldn't worry about thinking people are so young. I'm also in lots of fandoms where I thought I would be the oldest person and turned out, I was wrong. Oh btw for perspective I'm 38 my youngest lj friend is 23 or something. I think my oldest friend is is mid 50's. That's pretty much how it is in my real life too. I think if you join some communities and are active you'll meet like minded people and make friends. :)

I think you're right about age. it doesn't really matter - it's just that I have seen some communities where everyone seems to be more like 18-25. I do have some younger friends in real life, and when I was younger had older friends - like you. I don't think age matters when you have things in common.
I should find more communities - or get more active in the ones I just watch. are you in any good ones?

I have to admit I have been a slacker with comms of late. Including the ones I run. *hangs head in shame* I am in a few TVD ones, but I haven't really been participating. The Jyler Jeremy?Tyler one was very friendly though.
