Ah, I think that the heat may be actually leaving us - at least for awhile. Today was hot until late afternoon, and the the clouds rolled in, followed by the major thunderstorm and heavy rain. and now I actually feel cool air coming in the windows! I was talking on the phone with [profile] iilii and she was surprised how loud the thunder was in my part of town - it was so loud I jumped out of my chair at one point! crazy midwest weather!

Before I forget, more thanks are in order:

THANK YOU [personal profile] dawnie1970 for the awesome birthday card - I got it in the post today!!! You are the best!!! and thanks to my great LJ friends for the birthday greetings - this is the best birthday I've had in awhile (even though I didn't get any presents yet - my mom and sister are going to send me a gift certificate for new clothes - yay!!!)

I was so happy - I got four - that is FOUR birthday cards today in the mail - three from family and one from dawnie!! yay!!!!! And at work they had the birthday celebration for the April and May birthdays along with the singing and the terrible, cheap cake!

I've had enough of cake really. I bought a cake for myself yesterday, and it ended up being too sweet. I never thought that you could really have too much chocolate, but this cake was a bit too rich, and since M doesn't really like sweets so much, I'm basically eating it alone - thank goodness I bought the "baby cake" rather than the regular size ones that they have at the grocery store! oh and I bought some cherry sherbet the other day - but it tastes too much like chemicals. anyone know of any recipes that use sherbet so I don't have to waste it?

oh, and our car, that we bought just two weeks ago, wouldn't start today. I think it was the battery, which may have died because the dome light inside the car was left on. I hope that's all it is! I can't deal with car problems now...

well, since I'm pretty tired, movie reviews will have to wait until later. I've got to say my bit about the following movies: "Highway" (with Jake Gyllenhaal); "Batman Begins" (which I saw once before, while I was in Japan); "Howl's Moving Castle"; and "Intermission". Three out of four were good! Guess which one sucked and you get a prize!

ooh, I just remembered that I have some wine in the fridge. wine and chocolate - what a combination!

sorry, wrong answer:(

check below to see the correct one (my reply to galacticjack's reply)...

I loved "Intermission" - but then again it has Cillian, my favorite Irish boy!!

the one I hated has Jake, who I love too, but this movie was so below his talents!

*le gasp*

Oh wow. LoL I was really shocked! I figured that the Jake movie would've been good... wow. I gasped audibly at that.

LMAO.

well just so you know, it wasn't bad because of Jake - he was the only redeeming factor about it and the only reason i watched the whole thing!

lovely jake!

Your birthday! I missed it! I should've sent well wishes and all that. I'm such a douche (with a terrible memory/knowledge of dates/etc)!. I miss stuff so easily.

Hope you had a lovely time! many happy returns! :)

don't worry about missing my birthday. I'm sure I miss everyone's - I'm also terrible with dates and my life's been pretty crazy lately so I'm forgetting almost everything these days:)

you're sending wishes now, so no worries. thanks a bunch!! It was very quiet, which was just what I needed!

Also, I'm guessing Intermission sucked? But I have no idea as I've not seen it. ;/ ... be intrigued to hear your thoughts on the others though.

no, actually "Intermission" was really good. I enjoyed it a lot! it's like an Irish Woody Allen flick, with lots of swearing. it had a little of everything: action, comedy, sex, romance, and drama. The acting was very good too - Cillian Murphy (who I love), Colin Farrell (I usually don't like him, but he's quite good in this), Kelly MacDonald, and Colm Meaney (who is really a great actor). I highly recommend it!

the one that sucked was "Highway" with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jared Leto (a horrible actor!). Jake was the only redeeming factor, and he struggled with a terrible script and even worse direction. I'll write more about it later, but I don't recommend it at all. it was poorly edited and pointless. a waste of time.

"Batman Begins" was quite good - it was my second time viewing that. and "Howl's Moving Castle" (which you just had on the daily movie), was very fun - especially since I watched it with Japanese and could practice my understanding!

I have another lj friend who lives in the Chicago area too, and it was fun to read your entry right after hers. You both mentioned the heat and the thunder. :-)

wine and chocolate - what a combination!
What a lovely combination.

::sends good vibes to your car::
