the weather is so weird here. today its been pouring rain, and when it rains, the temperature drops by a good 5-10 degrees. so its welcomed! yesterday was hot, especially up on the third floor of the house, where our room is. this is the season when Mt Fuji disappears in haze and clouds - I miss seeing it!
Last night I watched a movie which I had been wanting to see called "Shattered Glass" about the New Republic writer Steven Glass who was fired for fabricating 27 of the 41 pieces whe wrote in the late '90s. it was really interesting, and I enjoyed it. I was skeptical at first since Glass is played by the kid who plays Anakin (aka young Darth) in the 2nd and 3rd Star Wars movies. he does a good job as Glass though, better than his horrible love scenes with Natalie Portman. I recommend it!
I've been working on my book, but instead of writing more chapters, which I should really do, I have been editing the first 10 because I goofed. I can't believe that as an English major, an English teacher, and someone who reads a lot of fiction, I used the wrong tense in my own writing. I had to go back and change all my dialogue and much of my tenses to present tense. Its been a chore, and it makes me rethink the whole thing. maybe I am just looking at it too much!
the next four days should be busy. I am meeting friends Thursday and Friday nights for dinner - one is a former co-worker who I haven't met since I have been back. And Friday afternoon I have an interview for a part time teaching job in Shizuoka, 40 minutes away by train. they also want me to do two teaching demos on Saturday - and I will get paid. I have to see what hours they want me to work - its really far away, and I will rely on rides to and from the station, so late nights wouldn't be good. it will be fun to see what happens, though.
Sunday we are supposed to take a trip to Tokyo. Masahiko has been invited to play a few songs with this kid who plays mostly pop and rock. it will be fun though cause its in Harajuku, which is the center of teen punk culture in Tokyo. hopefully it will work out!
