[profile] amiga_rippermod asked me about the following of my interests:

1. beavis and butthead
2. buddhism
3. drew barrymore
4. lighthouses
5. mr. bean
6. paulo coelho
7. sunflowers

1) Beavis and Butthead - well I was really into their show years and years ago, but haven't watched much lately. All I can say is that they are incredibly irreverent fun, silly, pointless, but hilarious! I knew kids like that in high school (in fact, my brother was like that - LOL), and the situations are priceless. Mike Judge is really quite a genius - just watch "Office Space" and you can see that!

2) Buddhism - I spent three years of my life in Japan, and am much more drawn towards the Eastern religions than to Christianity. My husband is Buddhist, and I believe in many of the philosophies and ways of approaching life, and death (including the concept of reincarnation - though I don't believe that anyone can come back as anything other than what they were in this life - in other words, if you are human, you won't be reincarnated as a dog). Before going to Japan, I read a book by a dutch guy who lived in a Japanese buddhist temple (I can't remember the name of the book) and it was so interesting. And then I stayed at buddhist temple for one night while I was in Japan - at Koya-san (mt. koya) near Osaka. It was the most life-changing experience of my entire existence. I really found myself.

3) Drew Barrymore is one of my favorite actresses because of several reasons: she's beautiful, and seems very smart and confident. She's a great actress, and versatile. And she's overcome a messed up childhood and become a mature, beautiful, and successful actress.

4) Lighthouses have always been so romantic and so mysterious to me. I'd love to live near one, and whenever I visit the ocean, I try to find them. They are just so peaceful, and so nostalgic.

5) My husband was the first person to introduce me to Mr. Bean, and we own the DVD set of his television shows. I think Rowan Atkinson is incredibly talented - the character of Mr. Bean is truly genius. I love the whole notion of his spoiled, bumbling and idiotic character, who is so truly clueless. Everyone can relate to him, regardless of where they live or who they are.

6) Paulo Coelho is my favorite author, a Brazilian spiritual guide whose books have inspired me and have made me cry. I highly recommend anyone reading "Veronica Decides to Die" (which I've heard is going to be made into a film - don't watch it, read it), and "The Alchemist" - and if you are spiritual, read "The Pilgrimage" - it's about Paulo Coelho's journey to Santiago de la Compostela in Northwestern Spain (Galicia) - I actually visited there myself 10 years ago - every year people go on a pilgrimage to that holy site. It's fascinating!

7) Sunflowers are my favorite flowers in the world. They make me happy - they are so cheerful, colorful, and full of life. If you have them in your room, you will no doubt be happy!
