laurainlimbo: (admit one film)

HI - welcome to my film post. I will start out with a very short, but very heartfelt review of a movie I just watched tonight. I just finished, about an hour ago, the fantastic Irish movie Once , and I have to say it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. It was just so low-key, so sweet, so romantic and poignant, and the music is incredible! The songs in this movie were all perfect, and now I have to buy the soundtrack. I really loved the camera work, which brought such intimacy to the shots, whether of the characters or of the landscape. there were great shots of the streets of Dublin, and of the hills and the ocean - so beautiful! It makes me want to visit Ireland, of course I've always wanted to! I also loved the sweet relationships between the characters, especially the guy and girl (who was so adorable) - their love story was tender, and so subtle. even the main character and his father had such a touching scene near the end that I was in tears. Once is exactly the kind of movie that makes me want to watch movies, and brings the joy back to the experience of the film. It was such a rewarding film, and I highly recommend it for those who love music, and who love movies that mean something.

My other reviews will be under the cuts, to save your space and time, and also since I really rambled on and on...

I've been meaning to post movie thoughts for well over a month now; I just get so busy with my stupid daily life, and I can't find the time to really write how I feel about each one. Since I'm so inclined, I think I'll just post some short reviews now, in case anyone is interested.
And [profile] galactic_jack if you're reading, I wrote some words about Inland Empire at the very end of my reviews; feel free to ignore the rest of the reviews, but I'd love your two cents on Lynch!

I just love the mornings when things are so quiet outside, the air is still cool, and the cicadas are just starting their summer music. later, when things are all noisy, I'll be holing up in my room with the AC and my HP book.

Since I am miraculously getting a connection this morning I figured I should update a little. I've not been in much of the spirit for posting this week - I've just been tired every night after work, and last night I was really feeling sick - sore throat, headache and bleh!! so I just watched a movie (review to come) and then slept.

since nothing else is going on in my life, I'm making this a movie review post. And I'll start with the most recent I've seen, ending with a review of a movie that I watched about three weeks ago.

so last night I watched Pan's Labyrinth beauty and horror like I've never seen )

Last week I watched a movie that I had highly anticipated, The Last Kiss , but that was mostly for the soundtrack, it turns out )

and finally, the third movie I watched at home was Little Children a movie I highly recommend )

Well now that I've spent an hour on here with these reviews, it's time to get some things done. The Post office, the grocery store, cleaning, and reading all await me...

have a great weekend everyone!! one more month of summer to go, so live it up!

I stayed up late tonight to watch Jensen Ackles on Jimmy Kimmel live - but it still won't start for another 30 minutes... and then how long will I wait to see Jensen?... we'll see how long I can stay awake. but perhaps Jensen is worth it.

sadly I think I'll miss the new Supernatural show tomorrow night (though I do plan to catch it somehow online) One of my co-workers is having a birthday celebration - I was debating whether or not to go, but since I really like these girls I work with, and it's not often I get invited out, I think I should go - it should be fun! And I'm sure the Winchester boys would understand, wouldn't they?

I'm not quite sure what happened to my time this week. I've been meaning to post movie reviews, but just haven't had the motivation, I'm not unhappy or anything - my life is fine, it's just so boring. I wish something exciting would happen. Plus, waiting to find out about this online certificate program is a bit frustrating. I just want to know I'm in so I can plan my future... of course getting into the program is only the first step.

I've been watching Heroes and trying to get caught up before the end of the hiatus. and I've started to fall in love with Peter Petrelli. Now I know what Dawnie is talking about. and I think Claire is great too! I love this show!
Funny thing, I watched an episode of Heroes last night, then followed it with an episode of Smallville, and then I fell asleep. I had the strangest dreams... just imagine those two worlds colliding!

well, I may not do them much justice, but I will conclude with the reviews of three movies I watched recently:

Stranger than Fiction )

Brick )

Zodiac )

well that's it for now. I'm going to wait another 20 minutes for Jensen and then toddle off to bed - it's only Thursday tomorrow.

hope everyone is having a good week!

and P.S. - if anyone wants any of the individual songs that I put in the zip file earlier this week let me know. I can upload them individually by request...

g'night!
