For me, by far the best show right now is Dexter. It continues to get even better and better all the time. I don't think it will jump the shark - it could be around for a long time! At least I hope so! The season finale is this weekend, and I will miss it so much!! it's always painful when the seasons end.
I would like to say that Supernatural is the best returning show, but in my opinion, it jumped the shark at the end of last season. Sadly, Supernatural is lacking everything that made it great in the beginning - good writing, good directing, chemistry between the brothers, and monsters! I miss the demons and the good old monster chases! I hope that SPN ends this season, because if it doesn't, it will just go out with a whimper, not a bang!
Glee continues to be fun - not a terribly deep or meaningful show, but just good fun! It's my guilty pleasure.
The best new show? Absolutely without a doubt it's The Walking Dead. I can't believe it's over after only 6 episodes, and I wish I didn't have to wait another year to watch it again!!
Other TV I'm watching: I started watching Chuck and got all the way to season 4, the current season - and I have to say it's not as good this year. I think it jumped the shark when they started focusing on the relationship between Sarah and Chuck. It's getting old now.
But I did so love it at the beginning!
And then there's my other shows: Merlin (which is always fun); Being Human (which should be back in January- yay for werewolves and vampires!); White Collar (which is back soon from hiatus!); The Big Bang Theory (which is still good too); and Justified (which should be back soon too!). I was watching True Blood, but last season left me cold (no pun intended)... so I don't know if I'll go back. Except that I'm always curious... that will always keep me watching shows I've been with since the beginning.
That's it for my TV talk. Back to your regularly scheduled programming... for me it's the Christmas episode of Glee!
