I am planning on posting pics from Tokyo and the museum today... just have to get motivated and off my lazy butt! But in the meantime, enjoy these little bits of Japanese humour that I found today online:

This first link shows an attempt to satirize the actually serious posters that are being placed on Japanese trains to encourage better manners (to get train riders to be less rude towards others while riding trains). If you click on the poster, you'll see the "real" poster that it's satirizing. the satirical poster also includes a reference to an apparently big problem in Japan, which is train groping (men grabbing women's asses while they're riding on a crowded train). If you also click this link, you can see all of the posters that have been put on trains regarding manners. They're pretty funny, especially the ones regarding drunken behaviour and putting on makeup! You wouldn't believe how many girls sit on the trains and fix their makeup when they already look perfect! But to be honest, that's the only rude behaviour I witnessed on trains while I was in Tokyo. For the most part, people sit quietly, or speak to their friends very quietly, and no one was drinking or eating or groping (thankfully! LOL!)...

and this picture may as well have been taken in Japan, but it was actually taken at a Walmart in Georgia, and is originally from the PeopleofWalmart.com website (which is well worth a visit if you haven't)! This hapless girl is wearing what appears to be a dead wookie on her feet, and Hello Kitty on her back... she'd fit in quite well in Tokyo, though:)

Ah. How amusing, all those posters.

Unrelated, kind of, is a question I have. I heard it was frowned upon to eat in public, is that so? I think I heard it on a travel show, but then see so much about people eating that I cannot understand how it is not proper... *is just a little confused*

Fuzzy kittie! *laughs* :)

I asked my husband your question, since he's Japanese and I'm not - he wasn't sure, but he thinks that it's okay to eat in public. I've seen people eating on trains, and kids are always eating when they're walking or waiting for trains. eating is a big deal in this country, and I'm sure with the older generations, there are some customs and rules - like not having your elbows on the table, or putting your chopsticks a certain way when you're done eating (if you put them in a certain position, it indicates that someone has died!)... but with the younger generations, it's pretty much anything goes, as far as I can tell.

Japan is a really funny place sometimes:)

*hugs*

I figured it might be old school customs or something...

Every place is funny! :) :)

Well except for the part about not being able to speak Japanese beyond Sayanora I think I might fit in there since I love Hello Kitty. Oh my those boots did look like they were made from Elmo. I wonder if anyone has an outfit that was made from Big Bird. Maybe a dress since he's so big.

I am a huge fan of hello kitty! I just bought the most adorable Hello Kitty shirt for my niece yesterday. sadly the guy who runs the Sanrio company is not a good person, according to my husband. the clothes some girls wear is so funny though - especially in Tokyo!

I love Hello Kitty too. I even managed to find jewelry that didn't cost an arm and a leg.

those posters were fun to look at thanks for sharing. Public safety campaigns though they intend to be serious, also seem to turn out funny.

That girl looks funny..heehee

you're right - I think they're intended to be serious but the pictures are so funny it's hard to take them seriously:)

lol, at least there's something to keep you entertained during a long train journey, some of things they ask people not to do are a bit silly though!

I didn't see any posters on the trains when I was in Tokyo - so I'm wondering if they are really actual posters? but nonetheless they all deal with real issues on trains. I think it's so funny when girls put on makeup on trains, but i'm sure they do that everywhere. and on the bullet trains, and sometimes late at night, salarymen drink beers and get a bit tipsy! it's amusing!
