yes I'm sure that if I lived in any big city in Japan, even in Shizuoka, I could get lots of good food. I remember in Nagoya during my orientation, we got really good Indian food. and I had some Thai food in Shizuoka - I know there used to be an Indonesian restaurant there too. There is an Indian restaurant in Fuji, near the station, but as I don't drive, and don't live anywhere near a station, I'm really stuck. And right now I've been house-bound with this broken foot, so going out isn't much of a possibility. I'm just feeling sorry for myself - I hate where I live. I'd really love to be nearer to Tokyo or Yokohama or Nagoya.

p.s. - I'm assuming your misspelling of English (Engrish) was intentional? I remember seeing an English pub right near the station in Shibuya, and I wanted to go there. Perhaps I'll go when I visit the embassy next month.

Yeah, it was intentional :)
There's an English pub chain here called the Hub... they are actually a fairly reasonable facsimile of a real English pub, and they have fish'n'chips and such, and big TVs that show sporting events. But since they are still distinctly Japanese I like to call them the Engrish Pub chain.

There are great things about being in Tokyo, to be sure. I always have thoughts like "Would it be better to be in the inaka?" but I'm pretty sure that no, it wouldn't. Not without reasonable support, at least.

well I wouldn't be able to live here in this part of Fuji without my husband - there's no way to get anywhere without a car. there are buses, which I take to work, but to get to the main train station, which would connect me to the rest of Japan, I'd have to take a bus and a smaller train, and it would probably take over an hour. It's not a convenient area. I've always wondered what it would be like to live in a big city in Japan - I'm sure it would be fun for some things, like shopping and restaurants. but of course you might miss nature and quiet. I'd rather live in either extreme though - either very very inaka, where it's totally quiet and peaceful (and thus far from anywhere), or totally urban where I'm a few minutes away from a station and lots of things to do. Where I live is far from anything to do, but still has the noise and crowds of a city. it's weird.
