bad movie, bad bad bad!!
I really need to stop ordering bad movies from Netflix. Last night I watched (or should I say I tried to watch) the remake of Journey to the Center of the Earth . so you're asking, why on earth did I rent that silly mess? Good question... I can't even remember why I put it on my queue.
I guess the trailer made it look Jurassic park-like and fun... I didn't even get to the fun part, if there was any. I turned it off after about 40 minutes, after it started resembling the second Indiana Jones movie (and not a good resemblance). Brendan Fraser really needs to start making good movies again - he's starting to get typecast as the nerdy professor-action hero type after all the Mummy movies. In this movie he was so uninspired, and the actress playing the Icelandic guide was horribly annoying. and the special effects were just a joke. I felt like I was watching a movie made by a teenager!
I think it's really time to put my Netflix membership on hold. I just can't find anything worth renting anymore...
and speaking of movies, I'm not sure if I'll even watch the Academy Awards this year. (I think I might have said the same thing last year, and ended up watching only half of the awards then)... Honestly I don't care anymore, and that makes me so sad. I might watch simply to see Hugh Jackman as the host(*melt*), and to see the beautiful dresses and the gorgeous men. This is the second year that I haven't seen ANY of the movies up for best picture - and I only care about a few of them. I guess everyone's saying that Benjamin Button is good, but I am not interested. I'm not interested in The Reader. I might see Slumdog Millionaire once it's on DVD. And Frost/Nixon too. of course I really want to see Milk, but it won't win. It's so easy to predict the winners every year - it's all political after all. Ever since Brokeback Mountain lost to Crash a few years back, I just gave up on caring. It's so disappointing.

I had the exact opposite reaction to the Crash v Brokeback thing. *lol* I think it is the case with both od those movies though that people have very definite feelings about them.

I've heard Blockbuster online is better - I might try that once I move.

Blockbuster online is good and if you have a Blockbuster near you you can drop off there and get a free instore rental.

I have a ton of movies in my queue that I should watch. I watched Year of the Dog this weekend, and I was really disappointed in that. I thought it was good for about the first half, and then the second just went somewhere crazy for the sake of it.
I also watched Meet Bill, and I thought that was decent and cute. Nothing too original, but I liked it.
I guess it's like with music... you just have to know where to look and go with recommendations from people you trust :)

At this point, it may be Slumdog as the favorite. But they have no acting nominations, which reduces its chances. The Reader is not gonna win. Neither is Frost/Nixon. Benjamin Button is too weird for Academy voters. Milk could win to make up for the injustice that was Brokeback losing to Crash, but the Academy voters are notoriously predictable for its conservatism and its shyness towards gay pictures.

you're so right about the Academy being biased and conservative. It's so political, like all awards shows. that's its biggest downfall.

'Slumdog Millionaire' is a great movie. It's quite a journey. I've also seen 'The Reader' and just saw 'Revolutionary Road' - I so love Kate Winslet in both. She's my favorite actress.

You might want to give the Indie Spirit Awards a shot (if you get the Independent Film Channel.) They are usually quite fun to watch even if you haven't seen all the films. I think they're on the night before the Oscars.

you know, I did like the movie Crash, but I felt it shouldn't have taken the award from Brokeback - it was a really political move, and disappointing. this year, we know it's going to be Slumdog Millionaire for the best picture award, and I guess that's a good thing. But there's no more mystery and surprise with the Oscars anymore.

I have checked out bits and pieces of the ISA since 2006 but I just can't sit through any award show anymore.
Go see 'The Reader.' I will tell you that it is a tearjerker but very good.

I haven't seen any of the Oscar movies either - don't really want to this year. I don't usually watch the whole ceremony - it's on in the middle of the night over here - I sometimes watch the highlights. Hugh Jackman is a big draw though - WUFF!

I haven't watched the whole Oscars ceremony in a few years. the year that Brokeback and Crash were up against each other, i was actually in Japan and had my mom tape it and send it to me. but if I were in Japan this year, I don't think I'd care as much. it's sad that so many films haven't even been released yet to DVD so I can't see them before Oscar day.

I always get cross that we have to wait so much longer than you, for films in the cinema and the DVDs.

I HOPE WINSLET wins as she is well overdue...
Benjamin Button was a wonderful film - I loved it and not just because of Brad or indeed Cate, I am a firm fan of Fincher I think he is great...
Slumdog I also found to be an incredible film and one that you learn from, aware of certain facts about india but not all so it entertains on so many levels.. I hope its the little film that could I really do!
Milk I have yet to see but have acquired it, Penn is a genius and I hope he wins, then again I think he has enough accolades so it would be nice for Brad .....
yeh Hugh Jackmen mmmmmmmmmm YUM!

perhaps I should see Benjamin Button - I know that Fincher directed it, and I'm a fan of his too. I'll give it a chance:)
p.s. I love your icon - I did watch Wall-E and enjoyed it. might want to watch it again as it was a bit hectic towards the end.

I think its worth a watch I really do.....
